CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I watched part of it. All I can say is one word: Wierdcore. Even Friday Night at Freddy's wasn't that weird and grotesque.
MAGA has descended into a wierd, glitchy parody of itself, in an ouroboric logic that can only be produced through algorithms and spectacle. We had a singular gesture of forgiveness sanctifying rage and contempt. Only kitsch, nostalgia, and willfull blindness can make that possible.

I must have missed that bit. I never recall Jesus atoning death and resurrection being mentioned. Aside from Erika Kirk, there weren't any of Christ's actual teachings being demonstrated, either (and the president went out of his way to contradict this, anyways). On the contrary, Tulsi Gabbard was there to push MAGA's divisive politics, and Gabbard belongs to a group that in the 1980's, a time when Evangelicals were less political, would have been considered a cult by many Christians in general (she claims to be Hindu, but she actually belongs to an offshot of the Hare Krishna movement that was started by a white guy and used to be known for aggressive proselytism and manipulative and controlling behaviors).

OK, but that sort of proves my wider point. If you want to preach the Gospel, why mix it with a message about how half of American voters are enemies that need to be fought and opposed? And why associate that Gospel message with a man who focused so much on racial grievance politics? It doesn't seem very sincere if you want your message to be heard clearly. In fact it could easily be seen as scandalizing the Gospel for no good reason except partisan political gain.
Or is this about Trump supporters that are Evangelicals failing to realize there are many Christians that didn't vote for Donald Trump, didn't approve of Charlie Kirk, either because they are Black Americans, the minority of white Evangelicals that reject Christian Nationalism, or the many other Protestants and Catholics that simply don't align with that kind of politics, whether in the US or around the world? The Kingdom of God is bigger than being white or being American.

This is very nitpicky, be warned. The etmology of the word sin is is the distance to bulls eye in archery? It would be pretty strange if it didn't share etymology with the swedish word "synd", and that is also what wikipedia says, meaning crime, transgression or misdeed. I know the saying "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story" but the point could've been made without using questionable etymology.

It’s the only part I watched in full. I skimmed over the whole video looking for his pastor’s bit but it was 7 hours and the only faces I recognized were political.
But let’s say I take you guys at your word and the pastor’s message was great. Was there something unifying and uplifting in the speeches given by Trump or by Don Jr that I missed? Should I go back and listen to those? Or how about others’? What were the highlights? Or was it just the pastor?

The pastor wasn’t doing that. Charlie was a Christian and so his pastor was preaching the Christian gospel. It’s that simple. You’re reading too much of your own grievances into his speech.
Who said the Kingdom of God is about being white or being American?
You complain that Charlie focused so much on racial grievance politics yet it’s all you seem to be focusing on in your post. Charlie tried to get minorities out of this victimhood and oppression mentality that has been instilled in them. Something you seem to have deeply ingrained in you. Charlie is to be commended for trying to get minorities out of that unhelpful mindset.

That’s kind of where I’m at. I chalked it up to me not being the target audience or my general dislike of the megachurch vibe, but it just felt more like a rally than a memorial. Like, if Trump could fully lean into the performative Christian angle at his rallies, we’d get that.
That all being said, I have no doubt that it’s exactly the sendoff Kirk would have wanted for himself, so in that sense it checked the most important box. Not the sendoff I hope to have, but I have no problem seeing why the demographic it was directed to found it to be a thing.
