  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A little Adelwez goes a long way? Fun story, it reminds me of filling out a medical form for my dad, it asked "How long have you been smoking?" His reply was "82 years." :)

I have written numerous short stories of varying lengths of differing genres. One of them is an apocalyptic 3,000-word story entitled "The Return." It is a story of the rapture and the return of Christ to the earth. I've tried to place it with a magazine without success. I would like to find a home for it.

I have written over 200 poems, and am in the middle of organizing them and revising them for publication submissions. That is the unglamorous “work” of poetry.

Here is a poem I wrote in 1980, for which I have not found a home:

"South of Chandler"

An abrupt end to paved road
Began with a deeply rutted lane
Of mounded sand and wet red clay,
Too narrow for two passing cars,
For just one fit the sodden tracks
That led on for quite aways
Around three hills weedy green,
O'er a swollen creek running high,
By a tumbling fence of old barbed wire;
And while the Olds' bumpy gait
About put me right to sleep,
An open window's airy port
Let in perfume of country scent
Blending fresh manure with cottonwood
In nature's rich potpourri,
As from a browning pasture's musty hay
Baled and laid in checkered rows,
I perked and caught the handsel
Which drove my senses wild aflame.

Written about an experience I had in 1956 while riding in a 1950 Oldsmobile eight miles south of Chandler, Texas.

i've just been writing stuff that probably isnt even poetry. it's very relaxing. i haven't looked into lessons or anything. Which is obvious. The word play here, sounds good to me. lol

As You encompass Light
Your Skies They enlighten my love of Life
A Journey Brightly put as the Horizon to my Soul
Our Hero is the Prominence of our Whole
For our Faith in Christ
We have come to live by Life

I saw someone wrote this somewhere:

“Music from Handel is too hot to Handle;
Beethoven’s beat is pure Bit of fun;
Mozart is loved by fans of Most art;
and Bach always brings the listeners Back.”

Who has written any poem or short stories?
Have written both. Of the two, mostly short stories. Need to brush up a short story I really like and send off so I can get a rejection slip for it. It's all sort of an exercise in futility.

I should be doing some more writing, but I wrote a handful of sonnets some years ago. Here is one of them for what it is worth. I've got the formal "conditions" at the top. I put that in to guide me while I was writing it.

Conditions

• 14 Lines of verse
• Iambic Pentameter (10 vowels per line ie. Weak / strong x 5)
• Rhyme Scheme eg. Shakespearean (ABAB CDCD EFEF GG)

The Breaking Wave

The edge of the storm tore the crests away,
And pushed the surging swells across the deep,
Dark water heaved beneath the livid purple rays,
And moved towards its landfall with a leap.

One swell, marching now beneath bright blue sky,
Its companions in serried ranks drifting on,
In mighty lines they moved, while sea birds cried,
And wheeled, shadows lost in the vast ocean.

Closer now the island called, with its tumbling roar,
The bright coloured fish darted in the coral caves,
Moray eel looked out and gaped, crabs fled the shore,
While on the beach the people played and waved.

And now the swell closed up, the crest reared tall,
Walled spray, then misted to the curtain call.
