  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's not a genetic feature. It is (weird) cultural practice.

No, he's talking about the Peruvian skulls having the same genetic markers as those found in graves in the Black Sea area, showing that the two populations were distantly related. Which he then extrapolates, badly, to say that Black Sea populations migrated to Peru, hence why the head binding is present. None of which follows.

Why assume binding?

Because we have no genetic evidence. And since we have evidence from across the world that shows cranial deformation with no markers for it being caused genetically and we also have evidence of it being down to other parts of the body ala feet binding, even to outright evidence of it occurring in twentieth century France, why shouldn't we assume cranial binding was a thing?

Perhaps because that might open a whole can of worms and people prefer to be deluded so they don't have to face other possibilities

Why would it though? We don't need to assume cranial binding was a thing, because we can clearly see evidence of it happening. We have the art, we have the skulls, we have the evidence for it. It happened.

Historians know that it happened. And nothing terrible has happened because of it.
