  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

According to a family member, in the days leading up to the shooting, Tyler Robinson mentioned that Charlie Kirk "was full of hate and spreading hate." Do you think that Kirk's own words may have had an influence on Robinson and his decision to assassinate him?
No, because Kirk was not full of hate and not spreading hate. Quite the opposite.

I think a distortion of his words is more likely, or the distorted perception that it was hate.

For example:

So on and on and on as predicted.
And the broad stroke demonizing of "others" goes on, as predicted. But thanks for showing that you can't actually back up that the majority "leftist/liberals/democracts" are celebrating this, somehow responsible for it or trying to silence him.

From what I've seen, Charlie Kirk was capable of saying both very inspiring and heartfelt things and very hurtful and cruel things. Most people are only aware of one of those two sides of him, which leads to some of the disconnect. Which one was the "real" Charlie Kirk? Who knows - though I'm not sure I could ever bring myself to respect someone who could say some of the things that he said, even if he didn't truly mean them.

I saw this shared the other day, and I think it's something that's worth reading:

The majority didn't like what he had to say. Meaning they wanted him to shut up. Likewise the majority of right-wingers/conservatives/republicans don't like what say AOC has to say and would like her to shut up. There I just "demonized" my own people lol. Also I said most of those celebrating his death are leftist/liberals/democrats, not that most leftist/liberals/democrats are celebrating his death.

Those two things aren't nearly the same. Not even close. A huge leap of logic there.

I doubt that. From what I've seen here, when she's come up, the conservative side on this forum doesn't want her to shut up, they disagree with her. Might involve some choice words and inaccurate descriptions of her sometimes, but I don't remember anyone straight up wanting her to shut up or be shot. I'm pretty sure a good portion even think it's better if she keeps talking because she's off-putting for the middle.

Like I figured this is gong to be a typical on and on circular argument, like I recently had with someone from Sweden. Must be a Nordic thing hehe ;)

What people would those be?

What do you think should be done about them?

Are they as guilty as Charlie’s killer? Do they deserve death as well?
Let them speak.

The "they" in this instance is a gun loving church going kid raised in a Trump supporting GOP family.
Please stop with this inference as "they" whoever that is and no one here answers; as being the left. It's not.

I think we should honor Charlie Kirk by echoing his positions such as.
The great replacement theory replacing whites with brown people.
The Civil Rights act as being a mistake.
The trans mass shooter phenomenon.
And a few negligible deaths as necessary to ensure the second amendment.

Kirk and MLK lost their lives for their cause. They were just two wildly different causes.

All I see Charlie didn't care about womans rights , And didn't care about people.
What? He quoted from Ephesians and he never stated he was against women’s rights.

Thanks to my cousin, I've seen his videos, he wasn't a good person. Maybe in his mind he was. But ,he wasn't to me.

I haven’t seen his videos and am not aware of him until his passing. I’ll let God alone be his judge. I really don’t have much opinion being that.

I never heard Charlie Kirk "preach" of "God's merciful love". He was a smug provocateur who said not particularly nice things- sometimes even hateful things- about gay and trans people, black people, women, Muslims, etc. and carried water for genocidal regimes. But I never heard him preach about God's love.

I'm sorry for Ms. Erika Kirk's loss, but her husband is not a martyr of the Christian faith. All the evidence seems to be he was killed because of his politics, not because of his religion. The Kingdom of God is not a political party. I never heard Charlie Kirk say anything about loving your neighbor, caring for the poor, the imprisoned, or the stranger, or any of the things Jesus actually commanded. All I heard was Christianity reduced to a political brand. And that's despicable.
He came from an evangelical background (Calvary chapel) which is concerned about saving others.

Most mainline Protestants and Catholics don’t generally preach to others about “being saved from fire and brimstone” but many evangelicals, from my experience, see it as a duty to save as many as possible.

One fundamentalist lady accused me of “Mary worship” and how I’m headed to hell.

It might come off as weird and hateful to some, but in their mind, some people fear for others immortal souls.

***for the record, I’m not stating ALL evangelicals, just a select few.

Also, Erica speech wasn't impressed to me. Evil doer's. Only 1 person killed her husband. And the person, that killed Charlie. Was because of his hate speech. That's the problem with America hate speech is fine , when it coming from Trump and his supporters. I personally don't believe in killing people. And I don't think it's the answer.

Mere disagreement is not hate speech. Being a conservative Christian is not hate speech.

I have a political agenda - or I did. My agenda was to explain to people who didn't know or understand what myself and others generally on the right vote for and why.

Charlie thought we could convince people of our point of view but that was not my intention, I thought it was too far fetched a dream - I was just hoping for a sense of understanding, a place we could meet as Americans once again, a common ground.

I stopped talking about politics pretty much altogether in February (a full 6 months ago) because of the devolution of political dialogue even on websites like this because not even Christians could come together and have dialogue anymore, and trying to explain where the right was coming from seemed wholly unfruitful.

Charlie was martyred - murdered in cold blood - simply for trying to talk to others about his points of view and offering people the chance to debate with him about the topics of our day.

I quit talking because I don't know where we go from here, and now with Charlie Kirk dead months after I gave up, I still don't know where we go from here.

When it's not safe to speak, when evil people in positions of power celebrate the death of conservative speakers (doctors, teachers, etc), and or call for their assassination we have lost everything this country once stood for.

After Charlie's passing I see the tide is turning. People are upset at what happened, and are speaking out. I've seen a lot of YouTube videos in the last few days, of people coming to God. People expressing resolve to not let this keep them from speaking their mind. Whether or not it will last is yet to be seen, but I do think things are changing for the better.
