CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Perhaps some pro LGBT people use seemingly homophobic comments and slurs as a term of endearment, but I suspect most use the language because they like the roughness and want to challenge expectations that just because they have more leftist/progressive leanings that they are not sensitive and fragile.
Funny, I remember using a homophobic slur once around my conservative father. Despite my political leanings not matching my father who is anti-LGBT, he chewed me out for using such insensitive language, lol.
Maybe the older generations are more straight forward, but leftists calling others "gay" isn't uncommon. Nor indicative that they are actually homophobic.

You're probably taking it more seriously than the shooter did. It's not a statement that's inherently homophobic or anything. It's just a typical crap posting designed to rage bait with no real meaning behind it. Might as well have just said "lol u mad bro?" on it.

Yes, I was commenting on your Orwell reference about claims that run counter to the plain interpretation of a piece of text. My point is that, right now, when taken together, the messages on the shell casings are nonsensical. By themselves, two would appear to have a clear interpretation (“ciao” and “catch this”), but when put in context of the others that appear to reference online memes, their meaning becomes muddled.

I was trying get the other poster to spell out what the "gay" inscription meant to her. Anyway I don't think any of the inscriptions are totally nonsensical. Especially the "fascist" one. A bit too on-the-nose. Anyone in the early 21st century calling out fascists when there are no fascists, is obviously a fascist. Especially when they engage in political violence.
