[Sebastian] Gorka addressed the shooting on Sunday calling it "laughable" that anyone is blaming
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) cuts to federal grants that would have funded tools and capabilities within the Minnesota Department of Safety.
The grants that were cut totaled $18.5 million and were run by the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3), a minor DHS Policy sub-office. They had funded programs at the state's Department of Public Safety as well as the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office to assess and manage threats of mass violence, CNN reported.
The DHS wrote in a press release last month: "CP3...with no operational role in monitoring or preventing terrorist attacks, had become a cash cow for radical activists under the Biden Administration—funneling taxpayer dollars to push woke, partisan agendas and silencing dissent. After a strategic review, DHS is discontinuing the funding of grants that have no legitimate nexus to protecting the homeland from the threat of terrorism."
Minnesota's Department of Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson wrote to the state's congressional delegation in July that the cuts would impact their ability "to protect our communities from targeted violence and terrorism."
He added: "Given recent events in Minnesota, including targeted violence toward
religious organizations, political terrorism, and threats at schools, this funding cut will further jeopardize the safety of Minnesotans."
[It may well be a stretch (if not exactly laughable) that funds cut off a month ago had any impact in an event apparently some years in the making without any intervention being made. But it's certainly not helping, now or in the future.]
