Welp, then when do we put boots on the ground on the Eastern front?
I have seen numerous reports of how Russia is suffering financially. It's become a war of attrition. Russia needs to sell/trade oil. I think it's possible that Putin's plans could be derailing economically and Putin doesn't want people to know that.

They have depleted much of their tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. Morale is not good amongst Russian soldiers. I don't see Zelensky asking for soldiers. Putin is mostly raining terror on civilians using shaheed and ballistic missiles, so I think Zelensky needs help there. Besides, nowadays, a $500.00 drone can take out a soldier, so I'm not sure how useful more boots on the ground would be.

Haven't people made that exact same miscalculation before? (pertaining to outsiders assuming Russia would collapse under attrition?)

Soviet Afghan war and the Chechen war would be examples of cases where "conventional wisdom" dictated that they would fizzle out, but where western analysts ultimately underestimated how long things would actually go
(note, in the Soviet Afghan war, we were throwing billions at Russia's opponents just like we are for this one)

‘That’s not true:’ Alaska Governor calls out report of Alaska-Russian rare minerals deal

“I just got off of Air Force One for a meeting with the President,” Dunleavy said in a video posted to social media. “We talked to the president about these rumors that Alaska’s minerals were gonna be sold off to the Russians or Alaska’s gas was gonna be transported by Russians. We spoke with him and some of his staff on the plane and that’s not true.”

But he had to ask...

I recall that most outsiders calculated that Kiev would fall in about ten days. And I don't even see how the Chechen war is relevant since sanctions were never implemented against Russia during that war. I believe it would best if Putin suffers utter defeat as a matter of justice. Otherwise, I think Putin would need something truly threatening as an incentive to negotiate.

It's easy to see through the propaganda. Putin invaded Ukraine describing it as a military operation on a "peacekeeping" mission. It was even made illegal in Russia to call it a war. Since reasoning on a falsehood ends in a contradiction, we can notice that when Putin is now asked if he wants peace, he never replies by conveying he wants peace; Instead, he says he's always open to hearing someone's peace proposals. And I also notice Trump conveying that he thinks he knows Putin pretty well and that 'he thinks' Putin wants peace. But I don't believe Putin wants peace; I think he wants a pro-Russian government in Ukraine and greater influence Europe.

As for the costs of war, Russia has hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of assets frozen in Europe, it might be possible that those assets could be used to finance the defense of Ukraine.

The 24 hours that Trump estimates for his time to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine has seemingly been extended again indefinitely.

Trump had warned of 'severe consequences' if Putin did not agree to stop war

Days before the summit, Trump had threatened "severe consequences" against Russia if Putin did not agree to stop his war on Ukraine.

It's been almost two weeks and Putin keeps playing Trump like a chump. Where are the consequences?

Russian Air Strikes on Kyiv Kill 15 as Putin Snubs US on War

Russia unleashed a wave of drone and missile strikes on Kyiv, in defiance of US calls for an end to the fighting, as Ukraine and its allies kept up efforts to obtain future security guarantees for the war-torn nation.

The Russian attack killed 15 people, including four children, and injured at least 48, Ukrainian authorities said. More bodies are potentially still buried under the rubble, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Telegram.

Trump held back from imposing sanctions on Russia after US officials claimed Putin agreed at the summit to accept security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a peace deal, though there has been no sign of progress on an agreement so far.

Trump warned Tuesday of “an economic war” if he can’t secure an end to the fighting, saying he had “very serious” consequences in mind. “It’s going to be bad for Russia, and I don’t want that,” he said.

All part of the art of the deal.

Honestly the bloated ego of that guy telling everyone he can end the war in 24 hours.

He really believes hes got special magic. Reality is: he's clueless to the point of negligence.

Worse are the people who fell for it or still do. It’s bad enough Trump thinks this way but so many people join him in entertaining these delusions. It’s scary.

I hate to see what’s happening to the Ukrainian people but it’s kinda nice to see reality kick Trump in the face.

People who really believe in themselves have confidence. Trump has arrogance which is a fear reaction stemming from feelings of inadequacy. That is a far more dangerous condition as he will act out in order to maintain his self imposed illusion of superiority.

Tariffs on India doubled in retaliation for buying Russian oil

Trump hikes tariffs to 50%, but India turns to more Russian oil
India plans to raise Russian oil imports by 10–20% in September, even as Donald Trump’s administration doubles tariffs on Indian exports. Refiners say discounted crude from Moscow remains vital to meet demand. New Delhi is pursuing talks with Washington, but officials signal no sharp cut in Russian purchases is likely.

Consequences for friends, but not Putin.

Weak.

Meanwhile, the U.S. continues to purchase Russian exports....
