Don't be crabby - be smart.
Don't know if that would be truly good or not - as what is falsely called knowledge (smart?) has increased beyond measure in the world (of unbelievers).

Your word was "the whole world." As you learned, the word used was "erets", which was used for localities, like "erets Israel", meaning "the land of Israel." The word for "the whole world" is "tevel." I realize that's not what you want. But that's how it is.
Yeah you corrected me. It was just the land that flooded. Technicality but you are correct. I’ll be sure to say all the land was flooded next time.

Believing in the words of Moses is smart

The earth was formless and void while a wind from God swept of over the face of the water is what it says
Sure. And it doesn't say how long the earth was formless and void prior to that.

In the beginning...The earth was formless and void while a wind from God swept of over the face of the water is what it says

Genesis 1:1-3 NRSVUE
[1] When God began to create the heavens and the earth, [2] the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. [3] Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

Yup, the beginning is when God began to create it. But again, the text doesn't say how long the earth was formless and void before that time.

As you learned, God didn't say the whole world was flooded.

Right. As you seem to now realize, the flood was not worldwide. If it had been God would have said so.

But He didn't say which land.
11 And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:

13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

Here, again, God doesn't say "world" (tevel) but just "erets" (land). And this is why you are continuously confused. "Land" can mean "hereabouts", "my land", "this nation", and so on. But "tevel" means "the whole world." Which is why God said "erets", not "tevel."

Why not just accept it as it is?

The land of the Earth....is called earth. Words have no meaning without context...

AI Overview

Yes, 'erets is a Hebrew word that means earth and also land or ground, with the specific meaning determined by the context of its use. While it can refer to the entire planet, it is very often used to mean a specific territory, country, or region, as in the Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael).

Key Meanings of 'Erets
  • The Earth: In passages like Genesis 1:1, "'erets" can refer to the entire planet.

  • Land/Country: It is frequently used to denote a specific "land" or a portion of territory, such as the Land of Israel.

  • Ground: "Erets" can also mean the soil or ground underfoot.
Context is Key
Because "'erets" has these different meanings, translators rely on the surrounding text to determine the intended meaning. For example:

  • In Genesis 1:1, when God created the "heavens and the earth," "'erets" means the whole planet.

  • When God tells Abraham to "Go to the land (Eretz) that I will show you," it refers to the specific territory of the Land of Israel.

So you think God used a word that can mean "local area" instead of the word for the whole world, because He wanted us to meant "the whole world?"

I think we've located your difficulty. So you think that, in the same book, He used words that could be used to describe the sky as a solid dome with windows in it for rain to fall through, that means "open space, not a solid dome?" Or was He using figure of speech like "raining cats and dogs?"

Are you starting to realize what your difficulty is? In what "context" is the sky a solid dome with windows in it? When you figure that out, you'll know.

The whole world doesn't flood - only the land floods. God was quite clear with his Flood description....but its not meant for everyone to understand it.

Actually, it would. You're struggling to find an excuse to explain why you believe in a world-wide flood when God didn't say so. Reflect again on the description of the sky in the flood story, and why it's described as solid with windows in it.

When you figure out that, you'll be troubled no longer by the words God used for the flood.

This is the judgment [that is, the cause for indictment, the test by which people are judged, the basis for the sentence]: the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.

Jesus says if they believed Moses, they would believe Me(Jesus), because Moses spoke of Me (Jesus).
And ever since people have been putting words in Moses' mouth to further their own wishes.
