'Guide my bullets like you guided David's rock': Woman says prayer before shooting neighbor whom she believed was 'murdering and raping' people, cops say

The victim said she pulled her Jeep into a parking lot when someone started shooting at her. Bullet fragments struck her eye and and entered her brain, cops said. Her Jeep had been struck by bullets seven times, detectives concluded.

"Defendant told Deputies she believed Witness and Victim were murdering and raping people," detectives wrote. "She indicated she has heard them digging graves in the basement of their apartment and believes he has people and kids buried there. Defendant stated she had to intervene because the justice system hasn't done anything to stop Witness and Victim's criminal behavior."

Kock said she "didn't want to hear them anymore," so she grabbed her son's rifle and shot at the victim's Jeep as she was pulling into the parking lot, the affidavit stated. [She] fired seven times because the number is referenced in the Bible several times.

After pulling the trigger, Kock told deputies she felt "at peace" and said she "didn't care" the victim was injured, per the affidavit.

On Friday, a judge ordered Kock to undergo an evaluation to determine if she competent enough to go forward with the criminal case.

We’re lucky she’s a Christian extremist and not Muslim or undocumented or we’d never hear the end of this from the president.

And in keeping with the justice systems lack of investigating these murders, it's a safe bet they aren't digging up the crime scene basement.

What kind of country let’s mentalists get hold of guns?
The problem is that the mental health screening portion of the background check is woefully inadequate.

The only disqualifier is if you've been involuntarily committed to an institution, or adjudicated as "mentally defective" by a judge (and yes, that's the language used on the form)

The problem with that...

There's a pretty wide chasm between "sane enough to own a gun" and "so mentally ill, that a judge had to order you into psychiatric treatment facilities"

There's a lot of mental illness that's in the middle ground where the person shouldn't have a firearm, but their situation isn't severe enough that they'd ever do anything that lands them in front of a judge.

The overwhelming majority of people with bipolar disorder haven't had episodes so severe that's it's led to actions that land them in a court hearing...but bipolar people certainly shouldn't have guns.

The gun didn't belong to her. "She grabbed her son's rifle". So the issue is the lack of a keeping guns locked. Although that would be a matter of knowing or suspecting his 64 year old mother would grab it and go postal.

As a gun owner I do not lock my guns up because of whom I think might grab it but because ANYONE might grab it.

No one knows. Hence the idea to protect it from anyone who might come in contact.
Well like I said it's a keeping your guns locked issue, rather than a guns being sold to mentally unstable people issue. Which is what it was being made out to be.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have kept his gun locked up in a safe at all times. I'm just saying he probably wasn't expecting his mom to go postal with it. Lots of people keep their guns on display. The ol rifle hanging over the mantlepiece.

Fair, just pointing out that as responsible gun owners we bear the onus to ensure our devices are secure. I hear a lot about "gun rights" but little about "gun responsibility".

I recall hearing a lot about it when I became a gun owner. But that might have to do with wanting to be responsible. In the long run I'm glad I eventually put them up for consignment in gun shop.
