  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Violent films and violent games, God fearing people and worldly people indistinguishable

It may be a little more complex. Consider if Satan were drawing the people of the world into collectivized slavery and at some level people recognized and resented this. Letting people have a vicarious way of expressing their frustration may be a way to keep people compliant and not really resisting the noose around their neck.

Volent video games and movies themselves are just fictional stories and simulations. They aren’t inherently wicked, and research has shown that they don’t cause violence in real life. In fact, for many people they can be a safe outlet to relieve stress and blow off steam without hurting anyone.

It’s also completely fine for Christians to enjoy these kinds of games or films. Plenty of believers see them as no different from reading a war novel, watching an action-packed Bible story (like David and Goliath, Samson, or Revelation’s battles), or engaging with any other fictional medium that contains conflict. The important thing is your own conscience and whether you feel at peace with what you’re watching or playing.

So, no — violent games and movies are not inherently problematic, and it’s perfectly okay for Christians to like them. It just comes down to personal choice.

Am I in the wrong for seeing these type of content as wicked and should have no place in a christian's life?
It depends. I admit I've seen countless violent movies, but can no longer watch them because they gross me out. I am NOT fond of violent video games AT ALL.
