  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Spice: The 16th Century Contest That Shaped The Modern World by Roger Crowley. It details the contest, initially primarily between Portugal and Spain, for a route to and control of the islands that were, at the time, the only sources for Nutmeg and Cloves. Portugal had circumnavigated Africa and Columbus had landed in the Carribean (though he thought he was near India). Magellan would search for, and find, a way past the American continents and into the vast Pacific Ocean. Soon other powers would join the contest and challenge both Spain and Portugal.

I'm reading some classic books free online, including Tarzan of the Apes, for the first time. I didn't watch any of the films, although they were well known to me, but I am certainly enjoying the book. Currently, in the book, Jane has fallen in love with Tarzan, making her suitor jealous..At this point, neither is aware that Tarzan has dramatically saved the life of another member of the party they were travelling with.
