"We are not going to allow people to spend $3.1 Billion Dollars on fixing up a building, like the Federal Reserve, which could have been done in a far more elegant and time sensitive manner for $50 to $100 Million Dollars. The Renovation would have actually been better, and we would have saved $3 Billion Dollars, Traffic Jams, and never-ending Construction.
"The Mayor of D.C., Muriel Bowser, is a good person who has tried, but she has been given many chances, and the Crime Numbers get worse, and the City only gets dirtier and less attractive.

I hope this will be a blueprint for other cities.

So should he wait until the numbers get bigger? Or should he put effort into getting the numbers smaller starting now?

It's outrageous no matter how much it may vary from year to year. Also don't confuse crime with prosecuted crime. For example, take something liberals are big on. Is D.C. prosecuting 100% of those arrested for illegally possessing a gun? 99%? 98%?

From the article linked in the OP..

"The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don't have to move out. We're going to put you in jail where you belong."

The above quote solidifies what I was thinking.

I mentioned in another thread somewhere that Trump recently issued this executive order.

One of the lines in the executive order is..

Shifting homeless individuals into long-term institutional settings for humane treatment through the appropriate use of civil commitment will restore public order.

I think Trump is planning to use DC as a test case for how to implement this executive order before he implements it more broadly in other cities.

The forcefully putting the homeless somewhere, rounding up criminals, etc.. its all in the order.

Are you in favor of leaving the homeless and criminals on the streets?

D C. is much better than many large cities. Calling in the Guard usually isn't the answer. Money spent helping high crime areas with better lighting, cleaning up empty lots and abandoned buildings, providing medical needs , helping community groups etc...works better.

No doubt crime happens, but I have walked all over D.C. after dark unmolested. I like night time architectural photography and have a field day taking pictures when I am in D.C. You would think a solitary guy with a thousand dollar camera and tripod slung over his shoulder traipsing around at midnight would be easy pickings, yet I was left alone. I'll add that local authorities seemed to me to do their job quite well with out help from the national guard. I got lit up one night by the park police whilst walking on a tree lined path on the mall on my way to photograph the Lincoln Memorial. They knew I was there before I knew they were there. It was like a movie when suddenly I was surrounded by spotlights. I have always thought their surveillance wanted a closer look to see that the tripod over my shoulder wasn't a rifle. Satisfied, they doused their spotlights and I went on my merry way.

I'll add a heart-warming moment for me was coming upon St. John's Episcopal Church on Lafayette Square - the "Church of the Presidents" - you know, where Trump posed with a Bible upside down. There were probably 15 people bedded down for the night under their portico. It seemed like a fitting thing for a church and for those who sought a night of comfort there. And now, we will roust them out to somewhere less visible and pat ourselves on the back that we have done a good thing.
