Understood - some side on forgiveness and brining the country together and other look to unforgiveness and what separates.

Our forefathers knew better - we could learn from Democrats of the past.

You again imply that the president and Congress possess greater insight than ordinary citizens. If this were genuinely your belief, it is unlikely you would consistently initiate discussions criticizing President Biden or former President Obama. I encourage you to be forthright about your views. Based on your frequent critical posts regarding past presidents and members of Congress, it appears you may not hold this perspective. Therefore, I respectfully ask that you refrain from asserting that the president and Congress necessarily know best.

Regarding forgiveness, those who fought against the United States during the war were granted clemency by President Lincoln. There is nothing further to forgive at this time. The current question is whether we should commemorate their actions or send a clear message that any attempt by a citizen, state, or region to secede from the United States will not be tolerated, and that the nation will respond decisively with its full military strength to suppress such rebellion.

Rewarding action of treason do not unite the country but encourages others to act similarly.
The Democrats were wrong, but Abraham Lincoln took a healing path.

If the actions of the South were worn, then commemorating or celebrating those actions would not be appropriate.

As conservatives, we claim not to reward bad behavior but instead punish it to prevent recurrence. So why do we support rewarding the South for initiating a war against the United States?
I am not supporting anything. My only concern is the assigning of motive that is not in evidence.

I think thats exactly right.

Statues like this go way beyond forgiveness and actually try to give treason and the destruction of liberty a place of honor.

100% agree that a criminal should be brought fully back into society after a time and even forgiven... But lets not erect statues of them, all dressed up for their crime, in places of honor.

Abe Lincoln did the right thing by granting clemency to Southern soldiers. However, celebrating their treasonous actions with monuments is misguided. Ironically, the party that claims to uphold the rule of law supports these monuments.

Richmond Confederate statues removed in 2020 head to LA

[image is how Jeff Davis is currently being displayed in Richmond/]

It's one of several of Richmond's Confederate monuments being shipped to Los Angeles for an exhibit about how these statues — and their recent removal from public spaces — have shaped American history.

[From the exhibit, which opens in October]

Co-organized and co-presented by MOCA and The Brick, MONUMENTS marks the recent wave of monument removals as a historic moment. The exhibition reflects on the histories and legacies of post-Civil War America as they continue to resonate today. It brings together a selection of decommissioned statues, many of which are Confederate, with contemporary artworks borrowed and commissioned for the occasion.

Removed from their original outdoor public context and installed within the galleries of MOCA and The Brick, the decommissioned statues featured in MONUMENTS will be shown in their varying conditions, from unmarred to heavily vandalized.

The decommissioned monuments in the exhibition illustrate the evolution of the Confederate monument from its roots in a funerary impulse to its rise as a crystalline symbol of a white supremacist ideology, whose obstinacy became increasingly conspicuous against calls for civil rights.

Several members of my family have sacrificed their lives in World War II and subsequent conflicts. My family is not unique in this regard; across the country, many families have lost loved ones who gave their lives for the United States of America, with some laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.

Confederate monuments in Arlington and elsewhere in America suggest that those who fought against the United States are honored equally with those who defended it. Is this really how we pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our country?

The monuments were not to celebrate the treasonous actions of anyone. Allowing the vandalizing of federal property by left-wing mobs needs to stop, that is an act against our country as well. If not punished, at least they should not be rewarded. What we can have is discussions and debate over such issues.

Your opinion is noted, but mob action is not the answer.

Wow , I agree with you here.

Vandalism and mobs tearing down statues need to stop.

I still don't see why anyone would support displaying a traitor's status.

Again , I agree. I am with you . Mob should not take down anything.

I don’t understand why anyone would want to celebrate a treasonous act, especially those who claim to love and defend America.

Because who you view as a traitor others view as someone they should honor. People interfering with ICE don't see themselves as traitors.
