Ewww.... some people just don't know how to read a room. We had a visiting (much older) priest once who told the joke (DURING THE HOMILY): Men open car doors for two occasions.... once to get in it themselves and two to let their mistress in.

This happened 10+ years ago, I have no idea what the homily was about, but I remember how horrified I was that a priest would tell a horrible joke like during Mass.
Sadly, the congregation can love their priest so much that they don't even catch the intentions of the priest's statements.

I went to the parish office today to donate money to have a Mass said for my parents. I was hoping to run into my current priest. But, he was in a meeting.

The priest at my church was doing confession Saturday, but I chickened-out and sat down for Mass instead. I'm going to keep discerning. I have a bad habit of taking the blame for people who are abusive toward me. This may be the case with this situation. So, for now, I'm not going to confess anything pertaining to this and will pray for clarity.
As you know, if you can't make it to Confession, do what you can for repentance at home through prayer and giving unto others. It's not the same - those aren't Sacraments - but Christ also understands "chickening out" which may mean anxiety to the point of distress. I've had stuff happen to me where the idea of being alone with a man who isn't my husband, Dad, FIL, Uncle, BIL, etc terrifies me. I stay close to Christ through prayer.

I do a rosary every night and ask for forgiveness of sins at that time. Maybe someday I can make an appointment with Fr. and discuss this further. I've turned over a new leaf and I want to keep things going in the right direction.

Sadly people did laugh.... but I think it was more out of respect to appease Father or idk.... maybe it didn't really click what he said.

Thank you for that saddening answer.
I am sorry if it was "out of respect" - jokes disrespectful of the holy will of God ought not elicit support, especially not if coming from a man (a priest) ordained to serve Him.
I am sorry to know such men receive the title "Father," especially those men who presume they are actually entitled to that title.
I am sorry to hear this confirmation of my suspicion, that such "appeasing" and inappropriate entitlements are probably typical and common in our Church, seeming to grow more and more secularized and spiritually impoverished as time goes on.
