During his arraignment Tuesday, 4th District Judge Nancy Baskin entered a denial for Bundy, as it is a civil case. However, if the court finds Bundy is guilty of violating the orders, he could be criminally sanctioned -- meaning, the judge could issue a type of criminal punishment.
His trial in the contempt case is set for Oct. 2 at 8:30 a.m. in Ada County, expected to last up to four days.
Bundy could face up to six months in jail as the highest form of criminal sanction, Baskin said, but that doesn't mean that's what Bundy will actually receive. Under Idaho law, the penalty for each act is a $5,000 fine and/or five days in jail. It's unknown how many times St. Luke's alleges Bundy violated the court order, but if Bundy violated it multiple times, each violation will add up to a unified penalty amount of fines and jail time.

Bundy asked Baskin to read each affidavit filed in the complaint, including one filed by former Boise Police Capt. Spencer Fomby, who wrote that the [Peoples' Rights Network] is purposely issuing disinformation to incite fear and create violence. Baskin read each page and paragraph word for word, which took over a half an hour.

Earlier in 2023, Bundy was ordered by an Idaho court to pay more than US$50 million in damages after accusing the state’s largest hospital of child trafficking and leading a campaign of harassment against its staff. A few months later, in November 2023, a warrant was issued for Bundy’s arrest by an Idaho judge.

He promptly went into hiding with his whereabouts not publicly known — until now.

As reported in The Atlantic, rumours quickly surfaced after Bundy’s disappearance that he had fled to southern Utah, but there were no first-hand accounts or substantive proof. On this basis, Bellingcat searched for online versions of local school calendars [like one shown in a recent video shared by Bundy] in the area, and found a match — a calendar for Iron County Schools in southern Utah for January to May 2024.

Visible in these videos are a number of distinguishing features that allowed Bellingcat to narrow down Bundy’s location to a specific property in Washington County, near its border with Iron County. Bellingcat has chosen not to publicly identify the exact location in this article.

The first step in the geolocation process was to locate a group of mountains in the background of several of the frames.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Ammon Bundy, the far-right activist who led the takeover of a federal wildlife refuge in eastern Oregon, has declared bankruptcy after loss in a defamation suitagainst an Idaho hospital last year required him to pay over $50 million in damages.

As reported by the Columbian, in the year since, Bundy had reportedly lost his home and went into hiding in Utah.

Bundy added he hopes a bankruptcy judge will discharge his debt, which is now up to $53 million dollars, according to court documents.

“I know the Lord wants me to go bankrupt,” he said. “And I think he wants to give the bankruptcy court the chance to rectify this.”

Federal judge: Ammon Bundy must pay $52 million civil court judgment​

Judge William Thurman, a federal bankruptcy judge in Utah, ruled against Bundy late Tuesday afternoon, siding with St. Luke’s Health System, Idaho’s largest hospital network.

Bankruptcy courts can discharge most kinds of debt including in some cases civil court judgments, but not if they are earned through “willful” and “malicious” means.

Erik Stidham, the lead attorney for St. Luke's in the case, said in a statement, "Just like everyone else, Mr. Bundy cannot use the bankruptcy process to avoid accountability for a jury verdict based on willful and malicious wrongdoing."

Bundy’s original $52 million judgment has been accruing interest at 10.25% annually since it was first imposed in 2023.
