  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So pretty much a nobody

His daddy decided to steal from American taxpayers by grazing his cattle on public lands and got into an armed stand-off with Federal officers. But he and his buddies survived (because they're white, even though they pointed loaded guns at federal law officers). Ammon picked up where daddy left off and wandered into Oregon where he tried to occupy the Malheur Wildlife Reserve because of <insert right wing nutjob issue>. One of his buddies got shot in a car chase that ensued from the standoff there.

So long story short: Son of anti-American thief who loves attention.

I never understood why people thought it was okay for the Bundys to flout the law like that. They were literally stealing from all of us.

Yup. And when the Federal Law Officers arrived Cliven's buds pointed loaded weapons at them. Something that black people in America call "suicide by cop"...only Cliven and his buddies weren't black so it's all OK. No harm, no foul. Got to go home to their wives and trailers.

Do you understand the term vapid? You choose to mock a poster in a really poor attempt at cyber bullying instead of adding anything interesting or Germaine to the topic.

my point, lost on you, is that he is a homeless nobody, who other than running as a Republican should garner no mention at all.

Oh puhlease, it's quite ironic for you to complain about not adding anything to the topic when the post in question pointed out you doing exactly that. The "points" you made were all within the article itself, you just attempted to dismiss offhandedly this topic by saying that he was a "homeless nobody", which others have pointed out already is false. Like pointed out, the fact that you personally don't know who he is doesn't mean that he's a nobody. You could have educated yourself to who he was by reading the article.

I found it odd myself. I have that movie Open Range with Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner. It's a good movie depicting the struggles to free graze their cattle in pioneer days. Those boys were not treated kindly by their neighbors at all. Things weren't quite so hyper partisan back then I suppose.

Seems like a scary guy:
"A year ago, IREHR and the Montana Human Rights Network (MHRN) released Ammon’s Army: Inside the Far-Right People’s Rights Network, which first documented how the group headed by far-right paramilitary figure Ammon Bundy used politicization of the pandemic to build up a national membership base of 21,851 and a cadre of 153 on-the-ground activists in thirteen states," the group announced in the fall of 2021. "One year later, the People’s Rights network continues to expand, according to new IREHR data. This report examines the latest membership data on the People’s Rights network. Since the release of Ammon’s Army, the People’s Rights network increased its national membership by 53% to 33,431 members in the last year. Moreover, the group’s official activist base grew by more than 160% to 398 activists in 38 states."

...other than running as a Republican...
He's running as an independent or People's Rights candidate, not a a Republican, so is it okay to criticize him?

Idaho gubernatorial candidate and antigovernmentactivist Ammon Bundy on Thursday was fined $3,000 and sentenced to 10 days in jail for contempt of court.

Bundy was immediately handcuffed in Fourth District Court in Boise and taken to the Ada County Jail.

Judge Annie McDevitt ruled Bundy failed to perform 40 hours of community service following a 2020 trespassing conviction at the Idaho Statehouse.

Bundy argued his work for his campaign for governor counted toward the 40 hours of community service.

Far-Right Activist Ammon Bundy Threatens ‘Shotgun’ Standoff Over Hospital Lawsuit

Bundy, the People’s Rights Network, and other associates are defendants in a lawsuit by St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center, which accuses the right-wing network of defamation.

The Bundy network fabricated conspiracy theories about St. Luke’s and its staff, all while running fundraisers online, the hospital claims in its lawsuit. “These solicitations for charitable contributions were made based on defamatory statements about the St. Luke’s Parties and others kidnapping, trafficking, and killing children.”

Bundy, who did not return The Daily Beast’s request for comment, hasn’t been cooperating with the lawsuit. He’s skipped court appearances, including a September sanctions hearing. In his interview with the Dispatch, Bundy held up a stack of court papers and said he’s been throwing them in the garbage.

“They’re suing me for defamation. They’re probably going to try to get judgments of over a million dollars and take everything they have from me,” Bundy told the conservative Idaho Dispatch in a livestream video this week. “And I’m not going to let that happen. I’m making moves to stop that from happening. And if I have to meet 'em on the front door with my, you know, friends and a shotgun, I’ll do that. They’re not going to take my property.”

Far-Right Activist Ammon Bundy Threatens ‘Shotgun’ Standoff Over Hospital Lawsuit

Judge issues warrant for Ammon Bundy, who has ignored St. Luke’s lawsuit for nearly 1 year

In a letter written April 12, Gem County Sheriff Donnie Wunder said Bundy, who lives in Emmett, is “…becoming more and more aggressive with his behavior…” when served with these civil notifications.

The sheriff said Bundy told him during a phone call that he was “at his breaking point.”

“By the tone in his voice, I believe he is,” Wunder wrote. “My concern is with the safety of process servers and my deputies. I do not want to risk harm over a civil issue.”

Wunder [said he] would not continue to serve these documents without a court order.

State law requires county sheriffs to serve these documents in legal cases. Failure to carry out these deliveries is a violation of St. Luke’s constitutional rights, according to its legal team.

“In the 32 years of my career in healthcare, I never imagined that a non-profit hospital could or would be attacked the way (Bundy, Rodriguez and their organizations) have done — using armed threats, intimidation, doxing, and a campaign of falsehoods to disrupt the hospital’s ability to provide medical help to the community it serves,” [hospital CEO] Roth wrote in his statement to the court.

Hopefully they won't try serving anything today. The last thing we need is another armed standoff with the militia movement on April 19th.

Attorneys for St. Luke's claim there was a concerted effort to disrupt hospital business. False statements were made about CPS, and the hospital and its staff were attacked online.
St. Luke's wants the harassment to stop and get the false and defamatory things that have been posted online taken down. Neither of which have happened.
St. Luke's attorney Erik Stidham said that Bundy violated the judge's order not to harass St. Luke's and people connected to the lawsuit. The judge issued a civil warrant for Bundy's arrest yesterday and Stidham asked for a "default judgment" in the case last week.
The arrest warrant was not issued because Bundy won't respond to the lawsuit or show up to any hearings; rather, it is related to charges of contempt of court. The judge said Bundy is violating her orders. This is where the civil case crosses the line into a criminal issue. This is the fourth time attorneys have brought up contempt issues in court.

As for the civil warrant, Bundy said in his YouTube video Thursday that he won't turn himself in. While there is no time frame to arrest him, Stidham said he believes the Gem County Sheriff will act on the warrant quickly.

Ammon Bundy Sparks Standoff Scare After Court Loss

On Monday, a judge issued a default ruling in St. Luke’s favor, due to Bundy’s failure to appear in court or respond to the lawsuit. The judge also ruled that Bundy and his co-defendants must sit for a deposition by May 24.

Hours after a judge ruled against militia leader Ammon Bundy in his ongoing legal battle with a hospital on Monday, Bundy’s followers received a mass text message summoning them to his Idaho home, which the message claimed was “currently surrounded by law enforcement.”

The house was not, in fact, under siege. But the message stoked ongoing fears of conflict as Bundy, best known for a pair of armed standoffs with authorities, drags his feet through a contentious court case.

There may be a method to his belligerent madness.

At least three witnesses in the defamation lawsuit are unwilling to testify against Bundy in court, according to court documents filed by St. Luke’s, because they fear they might be harmed by Bundy’s supporters.

Idaho militia leader Ammon Bundy is due back in court. But will he show up?

It's not clear whether Bundy will show up in court, as he's spent much of the past year not responding to the civil case. In February, attorneys for St. Luke's filed a motion for contempt against Bundy and are reportedly asking for punitive damages of $7.5 million. A district court judge later issued an arrest warrant for Bundy for failing to show up in court.

That warrant has not been served and Bundy remains free.

While there is no time frame to arrest him, Stidham said he believes the Gem County Sheriff will act on the warrant quickly.
Since that was three months ago, I guess he was wrong.

Idaho jury hits Bundy, defendants with tens of millions in damages in St. Luke’s lawsuit

Fourteen months after St. Luke’s filed a defamation lawsuit against Ammon Bundy and another far-right activist — neither of whom ever came to court — the case has reached a conclusion. The 12 jurors deciding damages in the civil action filed back into the courtroom early Monday evening to announce what Bundy, close associate Diego Rodriguez and their various entities would be ordered to pay the health system and other plaintiffs.

The verdict: a total of $26.5 million in compensatory damages and $26 million in punitive damages.

“The Ada County courts are embarrassing,” Bundy told the Idaho Statesman in a message. “This recent verdict confirms everything I have been saying. I am glad I did not participate and legitimize this mockery of justices.”

Just 4 months later, Ammon has been arrested.

Ammon Bundy arrested on warrant in Gem County

Far-right provocateur Ammon Bundy—who was arrested at his son’s football banquet on Friday—could have bonded out by posting $10,000. But instead he was spending the weekend cooling his heels in an Idaho jail.

That’s no accident, according to a lawyer for the hospital that has been locked in a legal battle with the militia leader.

"He is not paying the bond because he wants to use his arrest and time in jail to further a false narrative that he is some kind of martyr.”

“Mr. Bundy is not a martyr, he is a grifter who continues to grift his followers by asking them to shield him [from] paying damages and facing the contempt charges,” Stidham added.

'I'm not going to make it easy for them': Ammon Bundy arraigned for civil contempt complaint

During his arraignment Tuesday, 4th District Judge Nancy Baskin entered a denial for Bundy, as it is a civil case. However, if the court finds Bundy is guilty of violating the orders, he could be criminally sanctioned -- meaning, the judge could issue a type of criminal punishment.
His trial in the contempt case is set for Oct. 2 at 8:30 a.m. in Ada County, expected to last up to four days.
Bundy could face up to six months in jail as the highest form of criminal sanction, Baskin said, but that doesn't mean that's what Bundy will actually receive. Under Idaho law, the penalty for each act is a $5,000 fine and/or five days in jail. It's unknown how many times St. Luke's alleges Bundy violated the court order, but if Bundy violated it multiple times, each violation will add up to a unified penalty amount of fines and jail time.

Bundy asked Baskin to read each affidavit filed in the complaint, including one filed by former Boise Police Capt. Spencer Fomby, who wrote that the [Peoples' Rights Network] is purposely issuing disinformation to incite fear and create violence. Baskin read each page and paragraph word for word, which took over a half an hour.
