President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order aiming to reduce the costs of in vitro fertilization.

It's a step, though the EO doesn't actually establish any policy or accomplish anything directly - it's basically a request for proposals on how to improve the situation. We'll have to wait and see if it goes anywhere.

Very much like his EO to lower prices. Basically shouting to the Departments, "Anybody got any ideas?"

Did they ever get that easy replacement for the Obamacare they have been taking about since 2016?

I'm sure many Trump University grads are working day and night on it.

On the campaign trail, Trump said that if he won a second term, he would mandate that the government or private insurance companies cover all IVF costs. But Tuesday’s executive order did not provide details on how IVF costs would be reduced or whether that burden would fall on the government, insurance companies or both.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois), who had her children with the help of IVF, described the order as “overly vague” and “toothless” in a statement Tuesday. She called on Trump to urge her GOP colleagues to support legislation she introduced last year to protect IVF access, which nearly every Senate Republican voted against considering.

“Otherwise, it’s all just lip-service from a known liar,” Duckworth wrote.

White House backs away from IVF mandate despite Trump’s campaign pledge, Washington Post

White House officials say expanding IVF access remains a priority, but legal constraints prevent mandating coverage without Congressional approval, and no bill is currently planned, the Post reported.

They've tried nothing, and they're all out of ideas.

IVF is exponentially worse than abortion because many embryos are created and few are used.

The rest or discarded or kept on ice in a lab--as long as the owners pay rent.

PGT, pre-implantation genetic testing, insures that only embryos without genetic abnormalities are implanted. The affected embryos are discarded.

An abortion involves one embryo (or, in much rarer cases, a fetus.)

Ever wonder why so many 40-something acresses have boy-girl fraternal twins? PGT allows for designer babies.

I guess the candidate didn't hear all that--or doesn't care.

Yes, what's more disturbing that abortion is the widespread acceptance of IVF as a "personal choice", even though it involves the commodification of human life in a profound way. But because it doesn't involve decisions made by poor or working class women (instead, it's mostly undertaken by the managerial class and wealthy), it's difficult for it to be moralized in the same way in an individualistic, Protestant-esque culture.
