Trump fires head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Major consumer banks including Capital One, Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase are among companies facing lawsuits from the CFPB.

The CFPB drops its lawsuit against Capital One, marking a major reversal

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Thursday dropped five major legal cases it had underway — including a big lawsuit against Capital One — marking a major reversal for an agency that had pursued aggressive action against financial institutions accused of wrongdoing during the Biden administration.

Just last month, the CFPB had accused Capital One of failing to pay more than $2 billion in interest to customers by misleading them into thinking they would be getting higher rates.

The government saves money on lawyers, the bank saves money on lawyers. Everybody wins!

Not federal agencies.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting – which funds NPR and PBS — will shut down after the loss of federal funding, the nonprofit said on Friday.

...and dreams can still come true.

I suppose that it is a loss for Left wingers who conveniently had me paying to fund their propaganda; but the declining Left wing is not representative of the whole of our country.

Why? I thought federal funding was just a small part of NPR and PBS funding
Even a small amount can be the difference between solvency and insolvency. This is especially true for non-profits which tend to have very tight budgets to begin with. And of course, that's assuming CPB support is distributed evenly, which it isn't. The smaller stations, which in some cases are the only broadcast stations in their regions, get more of that funding and as a result are much more likely to go under because of this.

The CPB was how that was done. The funds didn’t go straight to the content entities.

It is a small part of NPR and PBS, but it's substantially all of the CPB, which is why it's shutting down.

That’s funding for local stations of PBS and NPR. Why are they needed?

If he's draining the swamp - should he release the Epstein files?
Wasn't that one of his biggest pledges regarding draining the swamp?

Then maybe drain the Presidency from it's ridiculously over-powered state now.
Give tariffs back to Congress - instead of one man at risk of breaching insider trading laws.
And many, many other Presidential powers that have crept in over the last few decades.
Listen to the "What's good for the goose" - the last "Common Sense" episode from Dan Carlin.
He quotes from a book written over a decade ago that NAILS the situation today!
The danger of an all-powerful President.
The danger of a populist.
The danger of the new phenomenon of online-echo-chambers driving voters made with crazed, frenzied rumours and conspiracies, forcing them to vote in populists.

The danger of effectively being down a branch of government!

That sounds like the swamp of paranoia and sensationalism over to the left.

There's simplistic labelling to try and deal with your own cognitive dissonance.

Then there's knowing what on earth is actually going on!

I'm not just talking about Trump - but his personality disorder does make him the most dangerous President in recent history.

Carlin is talking about systemic power shifts and drift across a few generations of Presidents on both sides of the spectrum.

If you listen to Dan Carlin - maybe you would have a clue as to how many powers have shifted from Congress to the President?

And while he's no fan of Trump - his podcast is not about partisan politics.

To make that point he keeps asking both sides to ask this question ....

"I might like MY choice of President having that these new powers - would I like the OTHER guys getting their hands on these powers?"

EG: "Would you be happy if Kamala Harris got her hands on these new powers?"

See - as long as America is a democracy - there is always the chance the OTHER team gets their hands on these new powers?

Do you have a sense of what has changed in the last 60 years? What used to belong to Congress but is now the Presidents? What new powers could be triggered?

Being able to remember the last 60 years, yeah, I do.

I distinctly remember a time when a Republican controlled Congress would have told a Republican president, "No, Mr. President. We are the US Congress, not your lackey."

My choice?
The N-R-A.
It might not be a federal agency, but it wields disproportionate power over legislators who bow and scrape to their every request--and are repaid handsomely with campaign donations in the process.

Cognitive dissonance; the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.

What did you think it meant? Or do you just say it because you hear it a lot? Probably Bill Nye got folks on the left saying it all the time.
Then there's knowing what on earth is actually going on!

Dan Carlin eh? That explains a lot.
