Egads! After a disastrous first 100 days, Donald Trump is starting to have a much more successful presidency. This is not what we, his foam-at-the-mouth critics, had planned or perhaps secretly hoped for.

This guy is in the minority with his admission that "we have to come to grips with realities that have so far eluded us. Such as: Not everything Trump does is bad." In my opinion that has to happen before the Democrats can recover.

There will be over the top insanity over him all throughout his term. And in the end he'll have done alright. No dictatorship, no end of democracy, no end of social security, no end of welfare etc etc. Just frazzled democrats.

Unfortunately, a house of cards with shaky promises and unsustainable policies.
Time will tell.

His bio describes him as a right-wing journalist who writes "opinion essays" for the NY Times, which, being responsible media, seeks to present both sides.
His primary job is with the Jewish press. What didn't he write about there? The humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Trump's desire to build a bloodbath beach resort on the Mediterranean.
APAC owns way too many American politicians in both parties, and they have supported Netanyahu's genocide.
And now, with the Epstein scandal threatening to do what 34 convictions, two impeachments, $500 million tax fraud judgments, and more haven't been able to do, APAC's cheerleaders are launching a PR camoaign in the NY Times. To keep the genocide going. Disgusting.

That's AIPAC - the I is important. American Israel Public Affairs Committee. They rent-to-own a lot of politicians on both sides of the aisle. The NYT is very pro-Israel and has been for as long as I can remember.

The New York Times suppressed stories of the plight of the Jews before and during World War II.

That was way before my time, if that happened, making your assertion an irrelevant to what I said distraction.

Trump is doing great right now by human standards and peehaps some of God's standards too. Economy, jobs ,record high stock market. Is it 1929 or a new run at prosperity? What scenario going forward is best for the church? Pastor Jefferies says God giving us another chance. Yes, some things have changed for the better but how will it continue? Christians should know there are links to well being of a nation and people of faith though there often may be a lag. My concern is the love of money. Will God let Trump continue as is or is a disciplinary moment coming?

And at one time, Donald Trump hadn’t cheated on each of his wives.

But things change.

Employers Pulled Back on Hiring, Adding 73,000 Jobs

The labor market showed signs of weakening, as job gains for the previous two months were also revised lower.

Employers continued to create jobs but pulled back on hiring, a sign that more businesses are putting expansion plans on hold as they deal with economic uncertainty created by President Trump.
The economy added 73,000 jobs last month, the Labor Department reported on Friday, lower than economists’ expectations. The unemployment rate slightly rose to 4.2 percent, up from 4.1 percent the month before.
In a sign that the labor market may not have been as robust as it seemed earlier this year, job gains from the previous two months were also revised down by a total of 258,000, an unusually high number.

Big businesses can eat the tariffs, but not for long. However mid and small businesses can't. If things are more expensive and the economic stability whip lashing back and forth, this will continue.

And then there is this:

Major US Cities Face Sharp Tourism Declines in 2025 Linked to Trump Policies

Well, a negative jobs report, a negative inflation report (4.2%), June stats revised downward, and the latest tariff announcements have put the economy in a downward spiral.

And what is best for the church? (Not sure what church you are talking about, but I'm assuming evangelical Christianity?) What's best for the Church is what worked for the Church in the Book of Acts: "See how these Christians love one another!" WWJD? (Read previous sentence.)

Some denominations have gone astray, demonizing LGBTQ, supporting Palestinian genocide, and pretty much doing everything Jesus wouldn't do. And the idea that Trump "perhaps" is doing right by God's standards seems to show complete ignorance of what God is all about. (Since you said "perhaps," please do not take that personally. Obviously you said perhaps because you have encountered some people who believe that, as I have unfortunately done, too.)

The author is no Trump shill. He as actively opposed Trump for quite a while. He of course will now be attacked and ostracized, for not holding to the "Trump all bad, all the time" narrative. For some it will never be acceptable to say something positive about Trump. He is seen as the enemy, plain and simple.

"During the 2016 United States presidential election campaign, Stephens became part of the Stop Trump movement, regularly writing articles for The Wall Street Journal opposing Donald Trump's candidacy and becoming "one of Trump's most outspoken conservative critics". Stephens has compared Trump to Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. After Trump was elected, Stephens continued to oppose him: in February 2017, Stephens gave the Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture at the University of California, Los Angeles, and used the platform to denounce Trump's attacks on the media. His opposition to Trump continued after he moved to the Times. For instance, in 2018 he argued that by the same logic Republicans used to justify the impeachment of Bill Clinton, they should impeach Trump."

And in related news, Donald has fired the chief statistician at the BLS

Trump fired Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer, accusing her, without providing evidence, of manipulating jobs data to help the Democrats during the 2024 election

Who knows how much is a part of his persecution complex, the Epstein scandal deflection or the continuing vendetta against previous administrations.

Either way, it's all vindictive and petty. There couldn't be a more wasteful use of government resources than bearing the burden of this man's pettiness.

Your right about the church in Acts setting the standard. Church to me encompasses all true believers. But what would get us to Acts? Early believers did not have the mediocrity we do.
It seems like most are too enamored with money
Too concerned about earthly matters like politics
Too weak in the demonstration of the Spirit
Not unified with no real authority like Paul or Peter.
Some might say this was predicted, that love would grow cold, that many false teachings would emerge. But God can discipline for sure, and i am thinking the status quo for the church in America, among other nations is going to be shaken.
