I think we all know that Bible Cherry Picking is pretty much performed by those who aren't educated in Hermeneutics and Textual Criticism. There are simply too many scholars who----by now----have written critically solid academic "manuals" on interpreting "texts" of any kind, including the biblical texts for people to still think they're 100% justified when extracting verses from the bible without contexts and without any measure of critical thinking.
There is plenty of cherries to pick that don't require any real knowledge at all, particularly if you want to make claims *counter* to the general understanding of the bible or the religions that come from it. A snarky anti-religionist could pick out things that are absolutely in the text, but are clearly not what was intended even from the plainest of readings (basic HS lit class level). For example extracting the quotation from the opening verse of the 14th psalm and putting it on bumper sticker complete with bible coordinates. (I should note that when I was driving in Georgia last, I wanted an "I march with Sherman" bumper stick. :) )
So, it's really past time for those who claim to be Christian to give up their willy-nilly and fake overtures of being ONLY "Spirit led" in reading, understanding and applying what it is they think they're mentally extracting from the biblical literature.
or filled with spirits.
Not only is Cherry picking time over, it is in fact dead. But apparently a large number of people failed to get the memo.
It's adorable that you think so. I know you have met many Christians.
And I'm just waiting for the poor soul who thinks they're going to challenge me on this point. I hope they're ready for the usual bibliographical avalanche that comes with doing just about any basic academic study.
The most important point here is that ICE is a government agency and should not have been referencing *anything* religion in their propaganda.

Indeed, I've seen plenty of examples of anti-religionists (or ex-Christians) making the same, stupid, illogical and fallacious methodological mistakes as do the Christians whom they oppose.

But, I r'lize these'r wild times we're living downs here in Plural County.

I think you've misunderstood my insinuation. Obviously, cherry-pickinig is still going on. What is over, however, is an era in which the utterly ignorant are still justified in cherry-picking simply because no one is around who knows better. Well, some of us do know better.

Oh well. At least ICE is getting rid of undesirable gang members, drug cartel members or possible terrorists instead of just letting them run roughshod within apartment buildings or local communities. I can support that effort and I've always been politically non-partison like that.

At the same time, if ICE members are going to quote the Bible as fellow Christians, I expect them to interpret the Bible responsibly, in context.

You are missing the implication that by declaring all illegal aliens as enemies of God they justify not prioritizing those people.

Look at what's actually happening. Administration doctrine holds that the crime of illegal immigration trump's all other crimes, the fib that criminals and illegal workers will be prioritized has largely been forgotten and ICE is working on quotas. ICE once in a while will capture gangsters with the help of local LEOs and crow about it but to say they are prioritizinge them is a joke. In any case, aliens who are charged with even vicious crimes do not stand trial for them here, they are just deported. Occasional workplace raids are staged and the illegal workers are deported but the employers and labor contractors slide. Even when illegal child workers are discovered they are not given succor but just deported--most likely back into the hands of criminals who trafficked them to the border in the first place. Why? Because whatever else they may have done they have polluted our God-given cultural heritage. They are enemies of God.

Look at what's actually happening??? Which sources are you using by which to "see" what is "actually" happening?

I'm completely open to engaging the evidence, but sources please.

Read the LA Times. That's a right-wing paper, at least it was when I lived down there. What sources are you using that you don't? Here's one that maybe your superior sources can correct me on. After Los Angeles was beginning to wind down ICE thought they would try their hand at the big corporate farms up in Ventura County. Illegals have been openly working those farms for a century or more, but Trump got his wrist slapped and ICE had to back off. Instead they found Glass House (Oooo! A pot farm! And one that contributed to the Newsome campaign as well! ) and picked up several hundred people, including a number of minors. Here's where your sources can help me out. What happened to the pot farm owner and the notorious labor contractor which supplied the workers? Besides "ongoing investigations" I mean. What happened to the workers? Where are they now? More importantly, what happened to the children? Where are they now?

I was literally talking about finding things that were clearly out of context to use for one's amusement. It is not an amusement I think they would appreciate on this site.

If a government employee who works for ICE wants to quote the Bible or practice Christianity, on the job is not the appropriate or legal place to do so.

When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. “It is written,” he said to them,
“‘My house will be a house of prayer’[Isaiah 56:7];
but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’[ Jeremiah 7:11 ]”

Did Jesus Cherry pick verse out of context, from the old Testament?

No, and he certainly didn't do so contrary to context in order to recruit secular police officers.

Actually it is legal now, by executive order.

Why would I peruse a right-wing paper of all things? No, I think I'll just start with something like CBS News to get a general idea.....

I have always opposed people using scripture as a justification for politicical activism.

Using scripture to bolster and support ICE is no more wrong than using scripture to support a gigantic welfare state or support illegal immigration in the first place.

Those who are disgusted by this ad should be equally disgusted at using scripture to support those things I mentioned.

Let's be clear. We are ALL hypocrites to some extent. Acting furious and disgusted at someone in politics using scripture to justify things we do not support politically. And then railing at the other side when they do it.

"How dare they!", we shout. "We are disgusted!", we cry.

And then we turn around and use scripture to support whatever political thing we want the government to support or oppose.

We shout at the sky when a politician dares to use scripture to oppose gay marriage and applaud with great zeal when one uses scripture to support universal Healthcare.

We weep when scripture is used by politicians to support illegal immigration, and rejoice with great joy when one uses scripture to support a law against abortion.

No, my friends we are ALL hypocrites!

They are using scripture quoted against its context to suggest that all illegal aliens, even those who have committed no other crime but illegal entry, are enemies of God. I presume you agree with them.

It's a form of brainwashed. So, ICE think they are doing God's work. When they're not. There's no such thing as a Godly nation. Until the Messiah comes back. Before that the Anti Christ will come. And the Anti Christ can come from America or any other country. I don't believe Trump is turning America into Godly nation. He's deceiving people.

It amuses me. People take it too seriously.
It always has.

That's probably a healthier choice.

Me and "my kind"? What do you think "my kind" is, Hans?
The sort that get over intellectual about religious texts. (or was your kind "apes", I forget).
Are you an eye-witness to what's "going on" out there?
Like all of us, I have access to a wide variety of reports on what is "going on" out there. We've also got our own "reporters" on this site making threads every time ICE arrests a handful of these "bad guys". The targeting of ICE on "bad guys" is quite poor, but that is probably because the whole operation is being run out of the White House by a racist xenophobe who just wants them all deported, even the native born.
I don't mind if they do. They just need to do it correctly when they do, like the knowledgeable, fair, intelligent and responsible people I expect them to be. Especially if they identify as fellow Christians.
The only correct place is not on the job and not with the government's voice. These

I didn't care about your Copernicus quote. And science has zero usage for the bible. If a table is that far out of balance we will usually have a spare CRC Handbook around to level it off.
