Trump team set to sell or destroy $12m worth of HIV drugs and contraceptives that were bought before closing USAID

These drugs have been sitting in distribution centers in Belgium and the UAE since January, when Trump ended the agency’s spending, The Washington Post reported. Now, negotiators have been instructed to sell the drugs or else they’ll be thrown out, according to the outlet.

“The mandate that [the USAID negotiator] has been given is ‘get us money for it, and if you can’t do that, we’re just going to trash it,’” someone with knowledge of the situation told the Post.

Some of these supplies were earmarked for 18 countries, meaning those governments may never get the aid even though it was already purchased, according to the Post. [Maybe they can get it if they're the highest bidder!]

The decision has derailed the projected end of the AIDS pandemic and means the number of AIDS-related deaths could jump from six million to 10 million in the next five years unless aid is reinstated, The Independent previously reported. Data projections indicate there will be 3.4 million more orphans who have lost at least one parent to AIDS, and 600,000 more newborns could contract HIV by 2030.

4.6 million deaths by 2030 attributable to the man some people have told me they had to vote for because he was pro-life. And these 4.6 Million Lives in the third world are due just to his defunding USAID. His callous Playbook has so many other plans that will result in deaths-- from Medicaid cuts, increased poverty, ending protective status for refugees fleeing Danger, sending immigrants to Salvador gulags and more.
I just did the math. The deaths even from USAID are far more than fetal lives saved from abortion bans in 30 states. I will sleep peacefully tonight knowing that my vote would have saved many more millions-- but sadly many pro-life voters made a deadly choice.

The interesting thing about mixing your politics with religion is at some point you inevitably face the test of having to choose which you find more important, your principles or power.

The core of the problem with the Trump administration lies with the UN World Health Organization ( WHO) & intrusion into sovereign nations handling of pandemics. The Trump admin is basically at war with WHO & is withdrawing from it because it distrusts WHO. While international AIDS treatment like Pepfar is funded by the US legislature, WHO interacts with it.

I wonder if China was behind an effort to smuggle contagions into the US and trigger an alleged “need” for WHO to come to the rescue?

These are tragic and trying times and problems, conflicts, & suffering groups in the crossfire just complete the picture. Mutual disagreement and distrust are common.

The WHO has zero control over any country's decision making regarding health. None whatsoever. The US nor any other sovereign state is under any obligation to follow any recommendations that the WHO issues. So it's a problem that doesn't exist.

If that's the reason that Trump says he has with the organisation, he's lying yet again. What you should be doing is working out what the real reason might be.

I revised my first sentence (fwiw) in my post which should have read as it does now:

Anyway, it seems to come down to WHO is good and Trump bad ( or fill in the blank of who ( no pun intended) is “good” and “Trump bad”.

The Daily Signal article intro summary on the WHO directive:

After three years of negotiations, delegates to the World Health Organization’s annual meeting have adopted a global pandemic agreement that threatens national sovereignty, requires the transfer of vaccines during global pandemics, asks nations to fight “misinformation,” and authorizes such “social measures” as lockdowns and mask mandates.

Luke 12:48 Much will be required of those who have been given much.....

For most of our history we have taken those words to heart, recognizing our responsibility to help other countries.

JFK said "Ask what you can do for your country."

Trump, self indulgent and hungry for money and power, has dishonored our country and the God he uses as a prop to gain evangelical votes...while millions die.

This really has nothing to do with AIDS drugs and special nutritious peanut butter for starving children.

US Terminates Thousands of Life-Saving Health Grants Including For HIV and Malaria. ALL US-made food for malnourished children cancelled.

“All malaria supplies protecting 53 million people, mostly children, including bed nets, diagnostics, preventive drugs, and treatments – terminated,” said Dr Atul Gawande, USAID’s former assistant administrator under the Biden administration.

Malaria ‘back with a vengeance’ in Zimbabwe as number of deaths from the disease triple

Withdrawal of USAID funds threatens decades of progress, say experts, with cuts to research and shortage of mosquito nets putting thousands at risk across the country

Cumulative malaria cases increased by 180% in the first four months of 2025, according to the health ministry, while the number of malaria-related deaths increased by 218%, from 45 in the same period in 2024 to 143 in 2025. As of 26 June, the number of malaria cases had risen to 119,648, with 334 deaths, according to the Zimbabwean health ministry.

Is it happening so basically according to this pattern or is it part of a bigger cycle? In December 2024, cases were increasing as per a report from Newsday & from the article:

Ironically, in recent years, Zimbabwe has been experiencing a surge in incidences of malaria, with some areas which were once malaria-free zones also reporting cases of the disease.

While the cuts in aid are deeply concerning so is USAID involvement with shipping virus samples from Wuhan labs in China ( which I mentioned earlier). If the levels of malaria were fluctuating prior to December 2024, how did the cuts in US funds create a sudden, overwhelming vacuum? Why is there such dependency on one funding source to begin with?

Then there is the generational fallout from the Zimbabwe “land reform” that started around 2000. However unjust things were what resulted from the “land reform” was a disaster. It failed so miserably that the former farmers who owned the millions of acres were being offered the seized land back at the height of the Covid pandemic.

Although the farms were owned by a handful of whites, these farms were maintained by over 1,000,000 farm workers. These were the people who could have kept the land viable & the nation independent from foreign dependence. So what did the Mugabe regime do to them? It displaced them.

What were the starvation rates and malaria rates during a whole generation of failures?

How could Trump, wrong or not, be achieving such epic disasters within a couple months that a generation of upheaval took much longer to achieve?

The rest of the world needs to pick up the slack. Where's the U.N.? Aren't there over 25 countries in the E.U.? Why don't they pay for it? What about the Muslim countries? Russia? China?

...They all just want us to pay for it, so they can all sit back and take care of their own countries first.
You didn't even bother checking, did you. You spend a lot more than any other country, but that's because you are so much more wealthy that other countries. But from here: US Foreign Aid by Country 2025

'...when considering foreign aid as a percentage of total GDP ($21.43 trillion in 2019), the U.S. is one of the lowest spenders among all developed countries.'

What you spend is about $80 billion. You almost spend as much as that on your pets, for heaven's sake: Americans spend $70 billion on pets, and that money could do more good

What a pathetic argument you have used to try to excuse the shameful immorality of what this administration is doing.

In case you didn’t know, our pets rely on us for their every need. How incredibly unkind it is to ridicule someone for caring for their pets in a proper manner.

...In the meantime, we have grown adults around the world who lack the capacity to produce a fruitful culture/ society.

You tell me who's in the wrong.

Meanwhile Africa remains nestled in an environment rich in natural resources. It's just mind boggling.
The right-wing mindset. If someone needs charity then that just proves they don't deserve it.

A few thoughts: do you think that the oligarchs who own the diamond mines and the gold mines give their workers living wages, disability benefits, fair working conditions? In developing nations many people are working far harder than you or I have ever worked in our lives and not being compensated for their labors.
In agrarian societies, and in many tribal societies, when famine strikes and the harvest is meager or non-existent, their work has gone for not. In places like Gaza, where 90% of the homes and places of business have been destroyed, where people including children stand for hours with little tin plates hoping for a tiny bit of food that often never arrives, and where their vengeful, bloodthirsty, callous enemies continue to persecute them it is a full-time job just trying to walk through the rubble and find a slice of bread for their children.

Hardly anyone works as hard as me, Fantine. Most people would cry if they had to do my job, but most likely, they would quit before that.

Sometimes I wish I had an easy job, like a fireman or something.

Meanwhile Africa remains nestled in an environment extremely rich in natural resources. It's just mind boggling.
As you know, those resources are being aggressively plundered by the industrialized nations, and as you know, most of USAID's money went to development programs to enable the people of those countries to establish food security and economic stability--not "handouts."

You're going to have to do better, Landon. I've worked extensively in several African nations, for and alongside USAID. I don't know what your agenda is, but right now nobody believes you.

If every developed country has been giving money to establish food security and economic stability in Africa, for 40 or 50 years, then why hasn't it worked yet?
