“Support for same-sex marriage among Republicans has dropped 14 points in the last 3 years, per Gallup.” So reports Bryan Metzger, a senior politics reporter for Business Insider. According to Gallup’s analysis of their own numbers:

Ten years after the Supreme Court established same-sex marriage as a constitutional right, national support remains strong and steady at 68%. However, this ostensible stability masks deepening partisan divides. Although Democrats’ and independents’ support continues to rise or hold steady, Republicans’ support—which initially grew in the years following the Obergefell decision—has fallen each of the past three years. The moral acceptability of same-sex relations shows a similar pattern.
Why? What is going on here? We don’t have hard data yet as to what caused the trend. But here are a few thoughts. They are in no particular order and they overlap somewhat.

First, it’s not just a partisan thing. It’s a generational thing. Generation Z’s support for same-sex marriage has “plummeted” in recent years.

Second, well, consider some of the comments in Metzger’s thread. Says Family Research Council’s Joseph Backholm:

People are starting to see the big picture. SSM was sold on the basis that personal happiness is the greatest good. That was never true, but pretending it is has terrible consequences that we are just beginning to experience and come to terms with.
Third, consider some of those terrible consequences. “Maybe pushing gay porn and gender ideology into schools wasn’t such a great idea,” says one commenter in Metzger’s thread. “I had no idea accepting gay marriage meant I would have to accept men in women’s sports and doctors cutting the breasts off of teenage girls,” says another.

Woke progressives are just like the Coyote chasing the Roadrunner: they continue to do stupid stuff over and over again, even though it harms them in the process and they never get what they want. In the end the elusive Utopia evades them yet once more, they end up blasted and burned in a ditch beside the road. Do they learn from this? No. They just order more junk from Acme and try it all over again.

Like I said, some people may not agree with same-sex relationships and/or think it’s wrong and immoral.

Some people are just sick of hearing about it.

I dunno.

I am just curious...what business is it of the republican or democrat party, or any religion for that matter on what people do in there private lives. Worry about yourself and mind your own buisness
This is why Christians ought reject the importance of individualism.

One face screaming on a TV news cast does not necessarily represent anyone other than one's own self, maybe?

I heard how Democrats were sure the Hispanic vote would go their way. Well, Donald reportedly got Hispanic votes because the Hispanics were not buying what the Dems were doing.

Why support for same-sex marriage is declining
Why? What is going on here?
One factor among others could be that publicizing the issue has called Republicans to evaluate it more than they have. And so now they have decided it is not acceptable.

Maybe somewhat like this > I have been told that some number of American Catholics have been not concerned about same-sex marriage > ones might feel that gays are God's children, too; so let them mind their own business. And to me it seems there could be Catholic counseling theory which seems ok with the idea that gays can't help it and so they are not really accountable for how they are. But now that a lot of activist gays are politically allied with the Democrats . . . may be by association they have spoiled their standing with sympathetic Republican Catholics and maybe some number of easier going Protestants who are conservative.

And every little bit counts. Hispanics themselves did not all buy into the Democratic thing, plus you maybe have voters turned away from same-sex marriage because of its political association. And then Donald has enough votes to not only break what was close to a tie.

Things were going for same-sex marriage and border crossing. But may be ones got greedy. And >

"God resists the proud", we have in James 4:6 and also in 1 Peter 5:5.

There always is God's resistance which could be the real explanation :)

Yes, but we're not talking about those gays; we're talking about the gays that parade down streets 99/100ths naked, demand special treatment in businesses, and carry signs though suburban neighborhoods reading, "We're Here, We're Queer, We're Coming For Your Children."

(staff edit)

For the most part, I do. But the Lavender Mafia doesn't. They want everybody to know their sexual oddities---they shove it in people's faces, in fact. I don't care what party they belong to or don't, I don't care who their bed buddies are (so long as it isn't innocent children). I just want them to go away and leave us all alone.

(staff edit)

I agree. But as I said: they don't. They want us to all know they're here among us, and by God, we'd better pay attention to them, acknowledge them, and endorse them, or else we're all homophobic bigots.

It was like any other human rights movement until it started trying to impose on other people's human rights. People cheer for the underdog, and react with disdain when it becomes the tyrant.

Jesus has made us His business. And we will be judged about what we do and say and think. So, it is wise to know what Jesus considers to be right from wrong. Jesus died for us in order to save us from what is evil.

MOD HAT ON

This thread has had a cleanup of posts that promoted homosexuality.

A reminder that promotion of homosexuality is not allowed, and it needs to be discussed from a political and civil rights perspective in this particular forum section. Do not flame conservative Christians.

It's a backlash, but it doesn't represent a fundamental shift. Just a weakening of sentiment, especially due to the fact that some young people live in cultural bubbles where they might not encounter many gay people personally, owing to the siloing effect of the internet.

When you say its generation that seems to imply social norms that change generationally. But I also think there has been a general trend towards progressive ideas over say the last 60 odd years. We can trace this with the 60s revolutions and especially the the sexual and womens revolutions. This brough the critical theories such as Queer theory.

We see the rise of the gay and lesbian movement and then the bisexuals which made up the LGB part of the now well known acronym pf the LGBTIQ+ community.

Gen Z would be just about right for when the long march through the institutions was spilling into social norms. So they have only known such a worldview.

But with all revolutions they dwindle and new ones come along. There is some truth that you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. The whole idea that has been socially engineered and not just SSM but the whole book of feminism, sexual liberty, identity, trans and gender ideology are all engineered ideas about how the world is ordered.

It has taken the LGB to a new level that is beyond what I think the L&G's had in mind. Which was really not to change the world so that everyone seen it their way. But to allow them to exist in the world as it was. Sort of live and let live.

But I also think its a more fundemental issue beyond LGBTIQ+ and a spiritual battle between the ways of the world and Gods Kingdom on earth.
