AMARILLO, Calif. -- Concerned family members are desperate for answers after they say a disabled U.S. veteran and citizen was taken during a federal immigration raid at a cannabis farm in Camarillo, California.

George Retes, 25, works as a security guard at Glass House Farms, where the raid took place Thursday. His sister and wife told our sister station, ABC7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles, that he was trying to leave the area as tensions escalated between federal agents and protesters.

"ICE thought he was probably part of the protest, but he wasn't, he was trying to reverse his car," said his sister, Destinee Majana. "They broke his window, they pepper-sprayed him, they grabbed him, threw him on the floor. They detained him."

This is what happens when the left gets violent. ICE isnt going to put up with it anymore. So when the left gets violent LE is going to start doing something about it. And when that happens sometimes innocent people are going to get caught up in it. After an investigation they let him go. When you round up that many people it takes time to identify them all and process or unprocess them.

Stop interfering with lawful actions. Period.

In a statement, [California] state officials said they had conducted a site visit at Glass House in May and found no violations. But later that month, the department received a complaint [of underage workers] and opened the investigation.

“The employment of individuals under the age of 21 in the cannabis industry is strictly illegal, a serious matter, and is not tolerated,” the statement said. “We encourage anyone with information about child labor or trafficking at any facility to immediately contact the Department.”

Glass House is one of the largest legal cannabis operations in California, the largest taxpayer in Ventura County and one of the area’s largest employers. One of its founders, Kyle Kazan, is a former Torrance police officer.

Court filings show many of Glass House’s employees actually work for a Camarillo labor contractor.

[This is the same fig leaf that allows many companies to hire illegal workers and keep its hands clean.]

The labor contractor and the company have been accused of labor law violations in recent years, including failure to pay overtime or give meal breaks. Glass House has disputed the charges, levied in civil suits in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, which are still pending in court.

An attorney at the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, Yliana Johansen-Mendez, said her office had interviewed some of the children who had been detained as part of the raid. She said all the children now face deportation. Even those children who have family members nearby, she said, probably will not be able to reunite with them easily.

“It’s nearly impossible for undocumented family members to get children out of ORR [the Office of Refugee Resettlement] to reunite,” she said, adding that under the Trump administration, the government has been pushing to deport children who in years past may have been granted residency.

If the stories arw true he wouldn't have been there if not for the actions of the leftists.

Also, apparently the illegals were trying to run away. This guy was seen trying to leave as well. This would have led agents to believe he was fleeing becauae he was an illegal or at least part of the group that had been part of this illegal hiring operation and was trying to flee.

So before you get all worked up about 4 days in detention my answer is, under the circumstances its reasonable.

This is what the outcome is when illegals are allowed to enter and stay in the country with the support of sanctuary places.

Now I will state that if you raid a place and a person claims to be a citizen of the US then they should go to the front of the line for proofing. "Yeah, that's what they all say" shouldn't be in their vocabulary. It should be, step into my office and lets get the information we need to prove this as soon as possible.

I don't know what systems ICE is using. However, in 2025, it's reasonable to assume a person's citizenship can ba verified within a couple of hours. The governments systems are known to be anitiquated...but even old systems should be able to determine that.


They had a warrant for the raid. No rights were violated.

The warrant does not cover detaining US citizens without probable cause for for days.

nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

A citizen, being among a group of undocumented people isn’t (yet) a crime; ICE has zero authority over US Citizens. He shouldn’t have been detained for longer than it would reasonably take to verify his citizenship. (If THAT took four days, DOGE missed something.)

Then you dont really know what happenned. I do agree it took too long. I dont know the process. These days illegals are getting fake IDs including social security numbers. They can obtain drivers licenses etc. And depending on the circumstances and when they started the investigation into his claim it may have taken several days because as we know most government services are not open on holidays and weekends. So I dont KNOW how long it takes. If sone makes a citizenship claim they should be put in the front of the line. And then it takes how long it takes.

The warrant is probable cause. And his flight along with the illegals that were there and the protestors made it even more so.

Don't forget who they picked up. It is certainly reasonable to believe this guy also may have been a part of the operation of exploiting children.

This alone is probable cause for detainment. Did it take too long to sort him out? Possibly. Due to the timing and circumstances maybe not.

Right now everyone is just speculating.

If the children were illegal immigrants it does. It also appears they may have been victims of child trafficking or illegal labor. Why on earth would you say tgey shouldnt be picked up or rescued. They were unaccompanied minors. Of course they should have been picked up. It should be determined who they are, why they were there and what they were doing. Where are their parents? You cant determine any of that if you dont pick them up. They were turned over to the proper agency.
