If California built 3 desalination plants, it would produce enough water for 1.2 million people... That would mean 1.2 million more people could move to the St. George area.

As your article notes, California has senior water rights. Nevertheless, California has joined with AZ and NV to voluntarily reduce water consumption 13% from the river in a deal that it looks like the Biden Administration will accept. The other states in the basin do not have to cut their on-paper allotments, but may still feel a pinch since they have to send water through to the senior rights havers.

Back in the 80s, NYC had a similar policy of tearing down poor housing and replacing them with new, luxury condos - the homeless population exploded and has not gone down since.

Who do you suppose is going to get the contracts to build these new cities on federal grounds?

So not only is the plan to plop a random empty city down in the middle of the desert, but also to have the federal government shut off the water for one of the biggest economies in the country?

This couldn't have anything to do with government welfare for red states and sticking it to one which voted against Donald, could it?

California often seems to take the easy route, regardless of the negative effects it has on others. Their choice to use water from a river that others depend on when they could tap into the wide ocean is only one example of their neglect. But they also choose not to pave their roads until the potholes break axles, they don't build more DMV's, even though the lines wrap around the buildings twice.

Youd have to be barking mad to move to St George in the current and future climate. Every day this week over 105F, and most likely this represents a trend.

We need more affordable housing. We have lots of apartments going up that typical apartment dwellers--younger, fixed-income, lower-income--can't afford.
We live in one of the most affordable areas of the country, but salaries are also lower.
Who is going to move into these apartments?
