Well, that didn’t take long.

Not even two months after the white smoke, and already the Vatican’s top doctrinal officer has made it crystal clear: the controversial Fiducia Supplicans, Francis’s infamous 2023 document that legitimized blessings for same-sex couples, will “absolutely” remain in force under Leo XIV.

So much for reform.

Leo didn’t exactly endorse Feducia Supplicans. It was cardinal ‘Tucho’ Fernandez, who has not been removed, claiming Fiducia Supplicans forever. The issues are that Tucho has yet to be reassigned, and that Tucho says Fiducia Supplicans stands.

Pope Leo should reassign Tucho to Antarctica. And he should recall Fiducia Supplicans for ‘further study’ and either let it die or heavily revise it.

What will Leo do? This is another critical point in his papacy and he’s not acted yet. Another is Traditiones Custodes. He can do nothing, which he has done so far, and he essentially becomes Francis II. Many people are beginning to think he is Francis II, after having given him every chance. I am with cardinal Zen, thinking he needs more time. But how long is enough?

He hasn’t been Pope for very long. I’m sure he will act on those issues sometime in the future.
