Zohran Mamdani, a New York state lawmaker and self-identified democratic socialist, has won the Democratic primary for New York City mayor, upsetting former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

With 93% of the votes tallied by The Associated Press, Mamdani garnered 43.5% of the vote, with Cuomo getting 36.4%, community organizer Brad Lander getting 11.3%, and other candidates receiving the remainder.

Cuomo has reportedly called Mamdani to concede the race.

Their city, their choice, their business. Texas has a stock exchange now in Dallas that some call Y'all Street. I think the NYSE closed its Chicago branch and moved there. How long before the NYSE proper does the same?

It’s probable now he wins the general election for mayor. And NYC will become a terminal distopia with smart people already figuring out their escapes.

Well, not really. NYC isn’t able to pay its bills without the generous funding of all of upstate and western NY, most of whom are Republican/conservative. And we pay a pretty penny to support NYC. Now that there is an avowed socialist on the ballot, the prospects for paying higher and higher amounts of our money to support all the cockamamie ideas this person ran on is staggering. Hopefully now is the time for a republican mayor again.

Mamdani has said he does not believe Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state. He wants the grocery stores to be owned by the cities. He wants to use taxpayer money to create a transgender treatment facility that will include minors. The guy has it all. What a candidate.
