Biden aides lined up to appear before House Oversight Committee in autopen investigation

The House Oversight Committee has lined up dates for interviews with former President Joe Biden’s aides as part of an investigation into whether his declining health while in office made him incapable of running the country.
The committee will conduct four interviews from June 24 through July 18 with four former aides who will appear voluntarily for transcribed interviews. House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) also subpoenaed Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, to appear for a deposition on July 27.

I'm curious what they think Biden's physician will testify to, at least beyond, "Due to HIPPA laws, I am not allowed to talk about the protected health information of my patient."
Good question. It'll make an interesting conundrum.

He can talk about how mentally fit his patient is, if the patent gives approval. The question is, will the doctor be able to do so, or will he have to keep quiet about it? It would be pretty telling if he's asked something like "how mentally fit is your patient?" and he has to reply with "I can't talk about that".

How is that relevant to the issue? If the committee is trying to determine whether someone used the autopen without authorization, how does President Biden's mental state figure into that? The misuse of the pen is the issue, not the President's mental state.

There's the suspicion that Biden's mental fitness was in such decline that aides used an autopen to sign documents to conceal it.

If the defendant (whoever that might be) wants to use that as a defense, they can do so at their trial. But it's not relevant to the issue of whether or not the autopen was used without authorization.

It says in the whitehouse.gov article that: "President Biden’s aides abused the power of Presidential signatures through the use of an autopen to conceal Biden’s cognitive decline and assert Article II authority". That's the charge being made and what the investigation is about. And that's also why his physician has been called to testify.

If you're going to continue claiming that Biden's mental fitness has nothing to do with the autopen scandal, I'm done discussing the matter with you.
Please pay attention to what I actually said. My point was that President Biden's mental state isn't relevant to the issue of whether or not someone used the autopen without authorization. Only if and when that is established can we delve into who used it and why it was used without authorization, and whether or not that's a valid legal defense.

Figure out if the crime happened first. All you have now is an accusation. There is no actual evidence that anyone did anything.

-- A2SG, as I keep saying, it's all about the evidence....of which there currently is none.....

The President's mental state was allegedly the reason someone used the auto pen so it's relevant

So you've assumed a motive, but haven't found an actual crime, let alone a suspect.

Got it.

And neither has anyone else.

It might possibly be relevant as a defense for the defendant. But first you need a crime, then you need a suspect. Then, of course, you need evidence...all before you've even got a defendant.

Well they're trying to find a defendant, I don't know if they will.
Probably down to a few suspects but difficult to prove

Really. All of that's needed first before an investigation can be launched. Interesting.

Kind of hard to find a defendant without an actual crime. Is there any evidence whatsoever that the autopen was used without authorization?

Probably down to a few suspects but difficult to prove
Therein lies the rub.

Apparently when discussing an investigation taking place, you're supposed to put the cart before the horse.

Nah, investigations can start for any reason, real or imagined. But if you can't determine if something actually happened, the investigation probably won't get very far.

Courts need evidence. Congressional investigations, apparently, don't.

-- A2SG, heck, they don't seem to need to know whether or not anything even happened.....

I mean, that’s what you’re doing… You’re operating under this belief that Biden exists, you don’t like him, therefore a crime occurred at some point, somewhere, you just need to find it.
