Season 2 of Star Wars: Andor hits very, very hard. Episode 8 may be one of the most significant episodes of television ever made. Anyone whose eyes do not water while watching that episode is probably a totalitarian.

The end of episode 3 also hits very hard. Everyone finds it difficult to watch, but many people also proclaim it as necessary to face as a fact of war.

"I believe we are in crisis.

The distance between what is said and what is known to be true has become an abyss.

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous.

The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil.

When truth leaves us,

when we let it slip away,

when it is ripped from our hands,

we become vulnerable to the appetite ... of whatever monster screams the loudest." -- Senator Mon Mothma speaking to the Republic Senate after the Ghorman Massacre.

I really liked the effort which went in to developing the culture of Ghorman, which was even more likeable than Ferrix from season 1. In addition one found Major Pardagaz an unexpectedly sympathetic character, whose demise shows us what happens to good people in the Empire (likewise the demise of Orson Krennic shows us what happens to competent people).

I also loved the bit about Grand Moff Tarkin casually landing his shuttle in a plaza and killing hundreds. That’s very Tarkin.

One of the delights of Andor was the respect they paid to the EU canon about the Galactic Empire which I remember from my youth - while I never played the Star Wars game from West End Games, I loved their sourcebooks for the rich descriptions of the Star Wars universe, and I absolutely loved the Imperial Sourcebook, with its description of the ISB under Compnor, and its different divisions such as the Ministry of Enlightenment. West End Games did a briliiant job helping to flesh out various locations in the Star Wars universe.
