What is the spiritual meaning of air, fire, water, earth and light ?
They can be symbols.

Air is light and the opposite of earth, heavy. It thus can symbolize spirit.

Fire is hot, like passion. It also purifies as with metal.

Water can be symbolic of cleansing since that is what we do with it.

Earth grounds and is solid and tangible. In a spiritual sense is seem opposite of spirit.

Light enables us to see so it can symbolize knowledge, consciousness, awareness.

Air or firmament in the biblical language is an element of separation, The firmament separates the heaven and the earthly order. Earth in a similar way is an element of separation in that it parted the waters and rose above. The imagery of the third day of creation is very present in the prophetic period leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This separation and rising of the earth above the eroding waves is life. Water in the prophetic accounts tends to treat it as a multitude of people especially when describing an incoming army.

But one may ask, why God separates waters that were identical? But who can understand? Why are the waters in the presence of mankind roaring waves, and the waters in the presence of God a still, sea of glass?

Light in the beginning was the first word spoken by God and proceeded all of the other works of God. The letters and Gospel of John speak of light quite often. Darkness is not evil, but anything can hide within it, nothing can hide in the light of God. Thus is the importance of repentance and confession expressed.

Fire is the depth of God's presence, like the burning bush that was not consumed, yet consuming to everything not prepared in advance. It is such a fire that either the fear of death and joy of life could be regarded depending on the eyes that behold it. The glory of creation to one, the lake of fire to another.

But there is a light that is not God, and a fire that God that is not within .. so there is meaning, and there are distinctions, one must be discerning.

In general - simply "making stuff up" that some clear statement is to be taken symbolically -- should be avoided.

In books of the Bible that rely heavily on symbolism for their depicted scenes - the text often tells us what the symbols represent - for example that "many waters" are a symbol

Rev 17:15
"15 And he *said to me, “The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

so then - by contrast - a beast arising out of the Earth as in the case of Rev 13 -- represents an area with sparse population centers
