  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Over the last few years, Burkina Faso has risen sharply on the World Watch List owing to a spike in violence against followers of Jesus. The rise of violent Islamist extremists has forced Christians to flee, and even cities that used to be safe are now at risk of attack.
Believers living in areas where militant groups are active, risk being kidnapped, displaced or worse. Christians have been targeted and killed and churches destroyed. Because of jihadist activity, hundreds of churches have been closed.
Additionally, converts from Islam can face more general pressure. Family and community members reject converts and attempt to force them to renounce their faith.

Meet Pastor Soré

“I do believe that we’re displaced, but Jesus is not and will never be displaced from our lives. He is always with us. This truth strengthens my faith and helps me in this difficult time, and I’m glad with God.”
Pastor Soré (name changed), displaced believer in Burkina Faso.

What does Open Doors do to help?

Please pray

  • Pray for hope and healing for believers who’ve endured violence and displacement by Islamist militants.
  • Pray for encouragement and strength for church leaders who’ve been forced to flee – yet still hope to minister to their flocks.
  • Pray for protection for journalists’ who face danger and that they will be able to report the news truthfully.
