I have personally believe you really cannot go wrong with the traditional hymns. Many artists today, to include Lauren Dangle, sing contemporary version of traditional hymns. I don't like Lauren Dangle very much, but she sings "In Christ Alone" wonderfully.

Have to admit I've never heard "In Christ Alone" referred to as a traditional hymn. It was composed in 2001. Though it certainly qualifies as a modern hymn.

I'm not Reformed, but echo your discomfort with many new P&W songs.

So.... these days, I listen to a lot of the older hymns. Protestant hymns from the 1930's and before, anything more modern, and imho the theological and lyrical depth and melodic beauty take a nose dive.

I also love Gregorian Chant, but some Protestant Christians may not like or be able to relate to that. Still awesome, imho.

Song “What a Beautiful Name”

Questionable Lyrics
I don't understand what this means: "You didn't want heaven without us; So Jesus, you brought heaven down." This has an air of saying, "Heaven wouldn't be heaven without us." Heaven is heaven for one reason and one reason only—God is there. To say God didn't want to dwell with Himself for all eternity (contrary to John 17:5) means heaven was lonely and incomplete until we arrived. Maybe you don't interpret the phrase that way, but where in the Bible could you point and conclude, "God didn't want heaven without us"?

The above I just came across the other day and it was well said. It’s written by Pastor Gabe’s blog post. I do not know much about Pastor Gabe but on this post he raises some really great questions on whether our churches should be singing certain songs. I provided link below. Be blessed.

I cannot listen to Hillsong or Bethel anymore, friends. And this is why—very, very questionable theology.

So, from a reformed perspective I suppose, who are some trustworthy Christian artists and groups with Biblically sound lyrics?
Good call on Bethel and Hillsong.

Bethel doesn't even sound Christian.

Hillsong at least 'pretends' to sound Christian. Some of their songs sound more Christian than some of their others. I suppose listening to it is okay, but I would never approve of singing their songs in church.

A lot of Christian 'pop' songs are okay. A lot of them are repackaged 'pop love songs' where they throw the name 'Jesus oooo' instead of 'my boyfriend oooooo.' Stay away from those. Stay away from ones where they repeat the same line over & over. None of those are Christian. There's some good pop Christian ones tho like the ones mentioned in the thread.

TBH I mostly listen to hymns on piano at this point. They just are less worldly. It soothes my soul.

I also love Gregorian Chant, but some Protestant Christians may not like or be able to relate to that. Still awesome, imho.
Hah hah. I 'can't stand' Catholocism / Orhtodox but have listened to Gregorian chant sometimes.

I love some Hillsong worship songs. Like "King of Kings" and "New Wine." I understand if the theology of Hillsong and Bethel makes you not want to listen to them though.

Two suggestions, which are Biblically sound, and you don't have to worry about their bad theology:
1) Reawakened Hymns
Example (I listen to this song almost every day):
2) Celtic Worship
Example (A couple years ago, they came out with a Christmas album and this was my favorite from the album):

I listen to worship music All. The. Time. I absolutely love worship music.

The old WOW worship playlists have many great songs as well.

You might also want to check out old Vineyard worship music. They have some great songs like this one.

There is also Common Gathering. They do pretty much only covers, but they are excellent. Here is one by them I really like. It is a cover song of Phil Wickham (who is also great).

Jesus Culture also has some great stuff with Kim Walker Smith.

Another song by Kim Walker Smith I like is by Worship Circle. I don't like all of Walker's stuff, but some of it is really good.
