  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Having already resurrected "Merry Christmas", President Trump will bring Columbus Day back from the ashes

Why is he saluting with his left hand?
I think he's peering at the flag atop the White House.

Why does he have his credit card out?
President Trump would never stick the American taxpayer with the bill for two comically large flags, so he's paying for it himself by mentally transmitting his credit card information to Temu.

What about people of English heritage? Wheres our special holiday?

How about the feast day of the Venerable Bede, 25 May? We could have a party that celebrates, um, historical scholarship and poetry. :)

That would seem to be more of an anti-English holiday.
It’s pro-English, because it reminds them of the Christian virtue of humility.

Good Friday is a market holiday. Veterans Day is not, oddly enough.
That’s because Good Friday offers the bankers a chance to sleep off their Maundy Thursday hangovers. V-Day is in a Tuesday and nobody goes out for happy hour on a Monday.

I was thinking St. George's Day, which is also Shakespeare's birth and death day.

At the municipality I worked for we got both Election Day and Veterans' Day plus Thanksgiving made November my favorite month.

I got some of my fellow construction hands that beg to differ.
I haven’t worked a trades job in a while, so I’ve forgotten some of what it’s like. I’ve long since graduated to drinking at my desk.

Maybe Trump prefers Columbus to the Native Americans because if he'd crossed the ocean in a sailboat and saw all the prime beachfront property on San Salvador he'd have kicked up his heels and hooked up a hammock in a tree, too.

...who is going to tell Donald that Columbus Day is still a Federal Holiday - as it has been for nearly the last 100 years?

Was there a car crash or something? What happened on June 7th, 1941?
80 Years Ago—June 7, 1941: First Lend-Lease planes are flown to Maine and shoved over the border into Canada, because Neutrality Acts forbid landing in Canada.

Jockey Eddie Arcaro and Whirlaway win the Belmont and the Triple Crown.

-- A2SG, what Whirlaway did to the USS Arizona remains unclear, though....

Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day is still on my calendar. Monday, October 13, 2025. I rember it was on my calender when Biden was in office. I celibrate both. Since my family have Native roots. I don't believe Columbus knew what horrible thing that would happen to Natives Americans. But Trump knows what he's doing. He's trying to get people to hate on both side. Especailly the right, so they hate Native people more. I hope both Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day can be injoyed.

Yes, Columbus was a flawed man, and IMO, should be judged in the context of his time. Most of the Native populations were decimated by the infectious diseases Columbus and his crew carried to the "new world". We can and should recognize both his achievements and the destruction of native populations that came as a result.

I for one am thankful for President Trump fixing this travesty of lessening the accomplishments of great white people. I was wondering around October 14th last year not knowing what was going on. This will also cut the bloated budget and free up money for bigger tax breaks.
