  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We are deporting legal Afghan Christians refugees who fled torture for their faith

The administration has emailed Afghans who entered the US legally (with extensive vetting) with protected status, and told them they need to self deport or face law enforcement actions. This includes Afghans who aided US soldiers and will be killed if they return home, as well as Christians who have been tortured by the Taliban and will probably return to the same.

If I were one of these folks, I would be worried about being sent to El Salvador.

Meanwhile, the white house released a Holy Week message which includes
We pray that America will remain a beacon of faith, hope, and freedom for the entire world,
so I guess that makes it all okay.

It would be helpful to also report why exactly legal refugees are being deported? E.g. is there an active policy to withdraw the residency permits/visas of ALL / ANY legal refugees? E.g. this normally could happen with a certain country/place deemed unsafe is not deemed safe again. Please add some context ....

that would be trump, and so far he's not done any of that really, and if he's just deporting willy nilly thats worse, he doesn't care who he hurts, just get rid of protected people.

Brother, this is more detailed and technical, but addresses your question:

Brother, this is more detailed and technical, but addresses your question:
Thanks, that is essential info - especially this paragraph:
.. immigration officials in the Trump administration are asking a different question: How did temporary protected status—a single provision among volumes of immigration law—become a means of providing blanket amnesty with no expiration date? ..
So the ones asked to leave are not 'kicked out' - their protection status visa simply is about to expire and is not being renewed (an renewal is not a a right, it's a privilege).

So the question then becomes - do Christian Afghans whose visa has expired and have to return by definition are exposed to significant risk simply for returning and living there? A (Christian) friend of mine recently moved from the EU to Kabul to work there ..

The fact that someone belongs to a Christian minority from a Sharia Law country in itself is not a reason to provide or extend protection visas.

Um, these are people who aided the US military against the Taliban, among others. You think for a moment if that would expose them to significant risk.

I agree, but surprisingly even eg. some European Governments have refused to take in Afghan translators - I don't know the reasons. I would think that would have to be reviewed on a case by case basis. I agree that cooperation with Western forces would create an extra risk.

Hold on. They chose to be Afghans. Why is it America’s place to defend them from their own actions?

Aiding foreign soldiers against your own people has consequences you know?

If this is not enough to repent , I don't know what would be.

It may just be that MAGA doesn't consider them to be "real" Christians. As I understand it, indigenous Afghani Christians are descended from Armenian Orthodoxy and so would be despised by US Evangelical Protestants.

Merely despising anyone disqualifies one from the Fold.
Matthew 22:37-40:
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

That will teach future collaborators not to assist the US when we invade their countries.
Conversely, the US will learn not to help anyone anywhere for any reason.

Very sad, and concerning, that they are following all laws and are still being asked to leave.

Wow! I can't believe , this would come in a email. Very odd. I would think by Mail. I guess people in other countries need to learn, they can't trust America. How sad.
