  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump says Congress should push 'for more Daylight at the end of a day'

President Donald Trump is weighing in on a national debate, apparently calling on Congress to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.
Supposedly when Roosevelt signed Daylight Savings Time into being, there were farmers upset that the extra hour of daylight would damage the crops. So it's unlikely that Trump was the first person to make such an obvious goof.

Why go to Congress? If he's the Anointed One of MAGA, surely he can just order the Daystar to hang around a little longer in the sky?
Maybe he thinks Venus is in the sky long enough already? :)

Venus is the morning star. The daystar is the sun.
Depends, not that this is important but I believe it usually means Venus, in modern English. I knew from the content of your post you meant the Sun, I was making what was a very small joke. (If it hadn't been a slow news day, I wouldn't have posted any thing.) Debating the definition of a word, seems kind of funny in itself, since we are sitting here with the internet and can just Google. "Definition of ________".

daystar
/dā′stär″/
noun
1. A planet, especially Venus, visible in the east just before sunrise.
2. The sun.

from The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition. More at Wordnik

Other sources say that the term "Daystar" means "Morning Star". Or HERE, no reference to sun.

I think the opposite should happen and standard time should be permanent. I live in a state bordering Canada and in the winter it wouldn't get light until after 9 am here and that would be bad for kids going to school and people going to work. Yes, I know many come home from work in the dark ,but there would be more at once in this scenario traveling. Studies have shown that there would be more accidents if this were the case. Plus, the human circadian rhythm is more attuned to standard time according to experts.

Even though I like the idea, it was already done in the 70s and caused all kinds of problems. I remember going to school while it was still dark.

I live in Florida but also hate DST. We already get too much light in the summer. If you go to bed early, like I often do, it can be awkward. It's better to have a few hours of sunset before you go to bed.

Arizona has already opted out of DST, for similar reasons. In the summer it's so hot, people only come out at night.
