  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, stoked outrage and calls for her censure when she mocked Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's paralysis, dubbing him "Hot Wheels" in remarks she made at a pro-LGBT dinner last weekend.

"We in these hot a— Texas streets honey, y'all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there, come on now. And the only thing hot about him is that he's a hot a— mess, honey," she said during a Human Rights Campaign event in Los Angeles, California.

I find it ironic a disabled man favors some very cruel policies. But that's what lack of empathy can do for you.
There is nothing cruel with those policies. Texas doesn't have the resources or the responsibility to take care of millions of illegal immigrants.

I wasn't thinking of immigration per se. The overall tone of the government of Texas seems to be one of 'rugged individualism" and neglecting poor or marginalized people and treating women's bodies as the possessions of men or male authorities.

She's right. The Right's embrace of transphobia is a fig leaf and wedge issue for an agenda that is very much against the prosperity and wellbeing of ordinary people. There are roughly only a dozen or so transwomen competing in sports across the entire US right now, but somehow this is a national crisis worthy of serious political discourse?

Former high school girls' volleyball player Payton McNabb saw her life irreversibly changed when a trans athlete spiked a ball in her face when she was just 19 years old. McNabb's injuries included a concussion, brain bleed and permanent whiplash, and it ultimately ended her athletic career.

Former San Jose State University volleyball players Elle Patterson and Alyssa Sugai have joined a lawsuitagainst the school and Mountain West Conference, alleging the presence of a trans athlete on their former team cost them an opportunity to earn a scholarship for the team. Both Patterson and Sugai claim the lack of a fair chance to earn a scholarship impacted them both mentally and financially.

The United Nations released study findings saying that nearly 900 biological females have fallen short of victories because they have been defeated by transgender athletes. The study, "Violence against women and girls in sports," said more than 600 athletes did not medal in more than 400 competitions in 29 different sports, totaling over 890 medals, according to information obtained up to March 30.

Yeah it’s worth it.

That's unfortunate, but volleyball is a sport that involves the risks of injuries. Kids get injured all the time playing sports, and sometimes those injuries are career ending. And almost never is a trans athlete to blame.

These kinds of incidents are being politicized to push a transphobic agenda meant to exclude people from public life for no other reason than they are trans. By all means, I support the right of sporting bodies to set standards for the safety of their players, but there is no reason the govnernment needs to exclude a whole category of persons from participation in sports based on their intrinsic characteristics.
