  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There Should Be A new Role For Trump, Cutting And Advising On Military Matters; Or On Technology

I will be clear: Musk is, by far, the best mind that Trump will accept to make or advise on major changes to the Defense, Homeland Security on matters of technology.
==
Name the top 5 people that Trump has advising him on issues of the military and space.

Name the top 5 people who can advise Trump on cuts to the Department of Defense, and to Homeland Security.

Name the top 5 people who can advise Trump on modernizing the federal government in matters of technology and computers.
==============
Musk could be the best cabinet officer over either of these. However, his best role IMO is to be the special advisor on both, certainly after the reconciliation bill is signed.
=============
One should understand that Musk has wanted to cut any funding for new fighter jets for some time. Any new war will be fought with drone fighters. And these departments are the top two targets for eliminating waste.
===============
The alternative role for Trump would as Technoloy Czar, to head an effort to modernize technology and computers in federal government agencies.

And yet Musk isn’t in any “official” position or office within the administration (per the court proceedings seeking to determine Musk’s actual role).

Well it's not like he is some kind of shadow government of deep state.

I don't understand your point.

Musk is an advisor in a position that does not require Senate approval. There have always been such positions.

My point is that after there are roles that are well adapted to Musk's expertise.

Then we are truly doomed. I hope you are wrong about no one being better to advise Trump.

I agree. Musk is an example of Dunning-Kruger. Unaware of his own incompetence.

Starlink, SpaceX, and Tesla have only survived because of massive government subsidies.

If we take away anything from all this, it's the realization that tech bro's aren't gods and should be taxed and kept away from political power and their role in public life needs to be kept in check.

There were many available to him last time. He kicked them out. This time he simply didn't hire them, and kicked out what expertise was still there.
There may be experts there, but at lower levels and ones that Trump is unlikely to listen to.

There are several senators with the expertise.

Frankly, I think Musk would be much better cut out for pushing innovations in military technology than for trying to be an efficiency expert. He has no clue on efficiency.

Sure, I wouldn't trust Musk to actually be in charge of military programs. His approach is high risk. But he could be a valuable advisor.

He might come up with something innovative like putting a bomb on a rocket...

High risk, low knowledge, self-interest.

I don't know if this is deliberate, but the names "Trump" and "Musk" seem to be used interchangeably in this thread. The title, "There Should Be A new Role For Trump, Cutting And Advising On Military Matters; Or On Technology" and the last line in the OP, "The alternative role for Trump would as Technoloy Czar, to head an effort to modernize technology and computers in federal government agencies."

Trump's best role is marketing and schmoozer. Even there, he gets in his own way with his egotism and insults instead of diplomacy.

Musk may have had a good mind at one point, but the barn doors have closed - wealth can be a curse when you have a taste for certain substances as Musk reportedly does. He has no special expertise outside engineering. He wrecked Twitter and Tesla is going down, so he might not be as good at running things as he touts himself to be.

Plausible deniability. Musk has been performing governmental functions that do require Senate approval. This is a problem.
