  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When is the time for neutral UN Blue Helmets?
The UN has no troops of its own, so they would have to be supplied by other countries. They would have to be invited by Ukraine and agreed to by Russia. It does not seem realistic.

What do you suppose a UN force would be able to do? Their usual function is to act as buffers between opposing forces in a kind of stand-off.

Have some countries that both Russia and the United States can agree on,
as a buffer zone.
How about we use Russia as a buffer zone? No Russian or Ukrainian troops within 10 km of the Russia Ukraine border on the Russian side of the line.

What about Ukraine?
Start with a small peace deal.

Russia could give the city of Lviv
permission to join the European Union.

Then Ukraine could give Russia formal ownership
of one city in Crimea.

The EU doesn't admit cities to membership.

The EU doesn't rely on Russian permission for anything.

Ukraine isn't giving up its cities.

Well then answer this, how do you feel about the Catholic Church ordaining Russian speaking woman to the Priesthood in order to be peacekeepers in Ukraine after Singapore is admitted to the EU?

What in the world?
Russia has NO SAY in what Ukraine does about EU membership.
That's not how any of this works.

Then Ukraine could give Russia formal ownership of one city in Crimea.

Russia illegally annexed Crimea in 2014. All the cities, with 2.5 million people in them, are under de facto Russian control.

I have no idea what it is going to take to get through to them.

Russia and NATO sing the same song.
”Keep the wheel spinning and they can’t be winning.”
One sides going to stop spinning eventually.
