  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The President is Alienating our Northern Democratic Ally

The president is insulting, gratuitously, our Northern neighbor and ally.

Note, that the president did not get even 50% of the American vote.
This was not some sort of "mandate" for his contradictory, and often
incoherent policy promises.

Note, that most Americans (I assert) still believe that Canada is a strong
and necessary ally of the United States. And, I assert, that the president's
continuous bashing of Canada, DOES NOT REPRESENT the historic or
current disposition of MOST OF VOTING AMERICANS.

Thanks, Canada, for being our Northern neighbor.

Where did you get this polling result, if anywhere?

Where should we be doing this "noting"?
Thanks, Canada, for being our Northern neighbor.
USA-Canadian affairs involve worldly governments. Where is support for the kingdom of God in any of this?

This administration is just so bad. They're laying off thousands of veterans. People that put their lives on the line for freedom and peace and stability in America. All in the name of allegedly balancing the deficit. All the while, they're simultaneously proposing to increase defense spending by 100 billion dollars, and the debt ceiling by 4 trillion to fund tax breaks for the rich.

Auto industries are repeating how damaging these tariffs would be for auto prices that will just fall straight on American people.

It's just crazy.

Oh, and those 220,000 federal employees and some 60,000 veterans proposed for layoffs? They would only account for 0.5% of the 1.8 trillion dollar annual deficit.

Yes, but not three digits. Darrell Huff wrote a great book in the 50s about this. It's called How to Lie with Statistics.
It is you who wrote "... the president did not get even 50% of the American vote.". If you meant something different than 50 %, would you not have written it?
49.8% is technically not 50%. So, Stephen3141's post is technically correct on that aspect.

But, "Not 50%" tickles the ears of a particular audience. "50%" tickles the ears of another audience.

I am not the one who raised the issue. And while I don't believe there is direct scriptural guidance on how two "worldly powers" should interact, on an interpersonal level, we have an abundance of direction. I think advocating for policies which would harm people runs afoul of those.
So do you relegate the jurisdiction of the kingdom of God to the personal psyches of Christian believers?

Stephen3141 posted that. You responded to him. I responded to you.

I am not sure what you mean by this.
Sorry; let me put it a different way. What is the jurisdiction of the kingdom of God or kingdom or heaven?

This is a golden opportunity for third parties. If the media was savvy, they would start bringing more third party voices to the table. It would allowed conservatives who disagree with Trump to see there are other conservative and/or libertarian options. It would allow the clueless Democratic Party to wrestle away control of Congress from the Republicans. And it then it would lead to fracturing of the left as well as their own infighting starts. We could be rid of this duopoly that hurts American society. But, hope I do not have for America.
It would be nice to have more moderate options. The tribalism is getting out of hand.

It would be nice to have more options grounded in what is true and right (just). Tribalism in itself is not evil. Israel had 12 tribes. YHWH never condemned them for it. The issue is tribal supremacy that elevates in pride (egotism) one tribe above another. Nowadays, tribes in the overdeveloped world are called "cultures".

Tribalism involves a shirking of greater moral and intellectual goods in favor of a lesser good.

So you have defined it. But it could also simply mean what tribes do - their behavior. And that can be good or bad - or some of both.
