  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is Eternal Life = Eternaly Living?

Hi,

Does eternal life realy mean eternaly living or is the key to what eternal life means in the words of Jesus which where recorded in John 17:3?
Unless one knows Him, there is no eternal life. His Holy Spirit does not dwell in the unbeliever, only the believer. This is how He knows one is in His Body, by Jesus Christ of Nazareth making His Home in them through His Holy Spirit.
Blessings

Yes. The two are not mutually exclusive of one another.

This is very insightful. Jesus promised His disciples that He would return with His Father to take up residence in their hearts in order to "reveal" Himself to them and not to the world (Jn 14:22-23). Today, He reveals Himself to us from inside our hearts. Knowing Him is only possible for those in whom He lives.

The fact that eternal life is life that lasts forever is evident in many Scriptures. Among them are John 3:16 where Jesus paired "not perishing" with "eterernal life" and John 10:28 where Jesus paired "never perishing" with "eternal life".

What does it mean to know Christ? He said, if you obey my love, I will reveal myself to you. Take up my yoke, for I am gentle and humble in heart. My way is easy. I think the key is kenosis or self-emptying. Anything short of that is short of Christ. Happily, we all die. Paul said, I died with Christ and the world died to me, but because he lives, I live.

Hi,

Does eternal life really mean eternally living or is the key to what eternal life means in the words of Jesus which where recorded in John 17:3?
“Key” in this context represents a means of access. If we picture a door separating our world from the other world (heaven) then to gain entry we need to know JESUS because only through HIM is salvation possible.

John 14:6 declares, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to THE FATHER except through me. “

We all exist eternally. Eternal life is new life, life in and with God as opposed to the alienation from HIm that we're born into here, life worth living eternally.

Eternal life is God's life, as distinct from human life, angelic life, animal life, plant life, etc.

Heaven is union with God. On the last day, when Christ returns, all who are saved shall receive new, incorruptible, glorified bodies that will never again die, age, or decay.

Then, yes! We will be truly alive!

Hallelujah!

And what's that supposed to mean? Are you saying that humans won't experience eternal life?
We share in God's divine nature (1 Peter 1:3-4).

It means that eternal life is a different quality of life than is human life, just as human life is a different quality of life than is plant life.

Eternal life is not just about its duration, it's also about its quality.

And yet the new birth is in this life. We begin to taste of the goodness of God and His life now,. We begin to know Him now, imperfectly to be sure and only to be fully consummated in the next life.
