  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Many Who Voted for Trump, Do Not Support His Agenda

This article sifted through 49 polls on Trump's policies, and compiled the results.
The results are on 14 policy topics, and an "Other" category.

4 to0pics showed an increase in support for the president's policies.
But all the others, showed a negative slide toward support these
president's policies.
---------- ----------

Frankly, the fact-checking of Trump's statements during his campaign
speeches, indicated to me that he cannot be trusted in anything that he claims.

It may be beginning to sink in that what a person CLAIMS, has a real bearing
to whether he can be trusted.

American Christians need to seriously re-embrace the speaking of truth, as
a basic characteristic that is necessary in a politician.

Yes. I agree. But what if we don't like the truth of any candidate and are back at square 1 with no good choice.
At least we have truth.

You do make a GOOD point about truth.

But, in these very STRANGE American times, I think (I assert) that
Christians have got to get back to voting for BASICS.

And the BASIC characteristic that an individual politician could uphold, is
to support the FAIR RULE OF LAW IN AMERICA. This, is what guarantees
Christians in America freedom of religion.

While all sorts of politicians CLAIM to be for the rule of law, I think that in
this last presidential election, only the Democratic Party had a reasonable claim to
be for upholding the fair rule of law in America. (I know that this is a controversial
claim, but I see the Republicans as having embraced all sorts of strange concepts
of "truth", including conspiracy theories. And, under this fake reality, there is no
place for the fair rule of law in America.)
---------- ----------

Many Christians do not like my position. They would want to FIRST force all
Americans to live according to the Judea-Chirstian moral-ethical system.
My response is that -- come to your senses -- America is NOT A CHRISTIAN
NATION, and right now, what is reachable for Christians, is to vote for
candidates that will uphold the fair rule of law in America.

Without the fair rule of law, we will end up having to live under a

1. Rule of Conspiracy Theories
2. or a Rule of Billionaires
3. or a Rule of Violence and Lynch Mobs.

The younger American generations may not realize that these are the
historic options to a fair rule of law. They may vote, as if they were playing
a video game, or voting in a song contest. This is a DISASTER, of ignoring
the lessons of history.

Both of the political parties do not REALLY like the fair rule of law in
America, BUT, it is the Republicans who are willing to rip up the American
rule of law, and take the disastrous route of appointing a dictator.
---------- ----------

I'm not engaging in language inflation. And now, we are seeing the Republican
president starting to live out what he means, not what he SAID, as he takes
an axe to the fair rule of law in America.

America's strongest allies, are now beginning to DOUBT the honesty
of the American president.

That is, the president seems to promise allies anything they really want to hear,
only to take it all back later.

Strong allegiances are built on strong trust, and the American president, in all
his lying about who started the Russia-Ukraine war, is losing America allies,
VERY FAST.

Although the American president may THINK that he is projecting a powerful
image, with his made-for-TV stunts (such as the Zelensky conversation in the
Oval Office),

HE ACTUALLY IS PROJECTING WEAKNESS, AND IRRATIONALITY.

What the American president is actually projecting, is that he is a common
Mafia thug, who does not care either about American citizens, or American
allies, or the support of other democracies in the world.

America's allies, and America's enemies, recognize that the president is
projecting a VERY weak man, who has no strong foundation of character.

Well, Stephen, I agree with you. I did not support a lot of what the Democrats stand for. But at least they seem to value the rule of law and are willing to except legislation and process they do not like (no January 6th riot) . Pardoning the January 6th rioter was off the chart rejection of the rule of law.

While it may be true that most politician bend truth, lie, exaggerate and/or misrepresent facts and reality, Donald Trump takes it beyond any reasonable limit. He is the poster boy for Anti-truth. It is almost like we can believe the exact opposite of what he says. So we seem to be in a place where stance on common political issues is no long the highest priority. But rather, at least for me, it is character and fundamental approach to governance. We are now drifting from constitutional ideals toward some distorted empire in which conspiracy theories, wealth and brutish assertion are in ascendency.

I am not really much of a political guy.
But when this kind of stuff happens under the guise of some aberrant form of "Christianity", co-opting the Gospel, I can no longer sit back quietly.

I think this is relevant in our polarized world.

How a son spent a year trying to save his father from conspiracy theories

"One piece of advice I kept getting was to try to see things from his perspective. Among our family and friends in the Bay Area, my dad has always been an outsider. We'd been rejecting his beliefs for years, but as time went on, they'd become more extreme. I was starting to realize that, from his vantage point, we were the intolerant ones, the ones who don't understand.

"When I asked my dad whether he feels like the odd man out, he answered somberly, "It's painful at times. It's very sad for me."
