It's not even like we embargoed Japan right away. We didn't do it when they invaded Manchuria in 1931. We didn't do it when they invaded mainland China in 1937. Nope it wasn't until after Japan invaded French Indochina in 1940 that the US imposed an embargo on Japan's war machine.

The Germans started it.
And eventually, because of alliances, most of the Northern Hemisphere was drawn into the conflict.

Doesn't Czechoslovakia in 1938 count? Especially as it relates to the current situation with Trump being willing to sell out the Ukraine?

Europe developed as warring tribes, who controlled certain areas.
Over centuries there have been claims made to areas such as Sudetenland that had a mostly Gerrman population and had been part of Germany off and on for centuries.
That was a minor note in the endless squabbles about borders.
It was the invasion of Poland that brought in Ally Britian and it dominoed from there.

Two things that have been overlooked are Russian is a very large and old group in Ukraine. (Kievan Rus)
The Don Cossacks are Russians.
Also Ukraine is the Russian Ports.

An analogy is that California was Mexico, then it was US and what if it were again Mexico?
However there is a very large population of Americans and the US would lose Ports, Los Angeles and San Fransisco.
The US, would not give up without a fight for those ports and for the Americans who have property within those borders

Its remarkably similar considering how the Czech's and Slovaks were not invited to Chamberlain's little "meeting" with the Nazi's.
