  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are there any Christian words like 'haram' and 'halal'?

While Christianity doesn't have exact equivalents to the Islamic concepts of "haram" (forbidden) and "halal" (permissible), there are some similar pairs in the Bible:

Clean / Unclean (primarily in Old Testament contexts)
Righteous / Unrighteous
Holy / Unholy
Godly / Ungodly
Virtuous / Sinful
Sacred / Profane
Blessed / Cursed

Christianity doesn't have a comprehensive system of categorizing actions as permitted or forbidden in the same way that Islamic law does with halal and haram. Christian ethics often focus more on principles and motivations.

Acts 15 contains instructions of the Apostles and Elders that at least some parts of Mosaic Law applied to Gentile believers .. so those sections still do define what is kosher/clean/halal for non-Jewish people too.

Traditionally Judaism regards the Noahide laws to apply to Gentiles.

But the big debated question of course is whether the Ten Words/Commandments still apply to Gentile believers. They certainly do for Jewish believers in Yeshua of course.

I take a less legalistic approach. See How do I know if something is a sin or not?

Our churches can be an important source of guidance about how to behave. If the Holy Ghost is in the lead of their traditions and the group in the now, which is the precedent set in Acts at Pentecost. Christianity is more that way of life since then, on top of following the appropriate commands.
