  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can i eat the Lord's supper daily?

In my church tradition (Episcopal), some large urban parishes have daily Communion services. You would be welcome to join them.

If you don't have access to something like this, then meditation on Christ's sacrifice for us and his gift to us of bread and wine could make a very good form of daily prayer.

Can i eat the Lord's supper daily? And what if I have no wine or bread? Is remembrance enough?

Answers are likely to follow one's theology, affiliation, and tradition. Mine are:
  1. Can I eat the Lord's Supper Daily? - Yes, although opinions may differ about what constitutes the Lord's supper.
  2. And what if I have no bread or wine? - Cola and potato chips don't count. Jesus said "Do this..." not "Do something like this..." No bread or wine? Wait until there is.
  3. Is remembrance enough? - Remembrance is important but it is not the same thing as sanctifying the elements such that Christ is present in the Eucharist.

Remembrance is the reason for the supper

One can also remember without the supper if unable or unavailable. That is my point. The Eucharist is remembrance, but not all remembrance is the Eucharist.

1 Cor 11 -- it is a memorial

23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same way He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

The Lord's Supper was the Passover meal - which is part of the feast of unleavened bread for Jews.

Unleavened bread - can be as simple as a cracker.
The passover cup was not fermented (no wine yeast) - so grape juice will do just fine

Yes - crackers are unleavened bread.

There is a baking process that we do for making unleavened bread for communion, but lacking the time to do that - a cracker will also work.

I don't know enough about your sacrament of the Eucharist. Can it be the Eucharist if done solo? If not done with proper wine and unleavened bread?

The word rendered in English as 'remberance' is the Greek anamnesis and it is not simply about thinking about an historical event so much as the historical event coming into the present experience.

Do not take the meal as if it were a common thing. Take it as often as you will, but it is not the same thing as having lunch. Treat it holy and special. This is the Lord's blood and body. Honor it and respect it. That is what I get from 1 Cor 11.
