Sharp rise in girls suffering dysphoria, with twice as many cases as in boys, study of GP records in England shows

The amount of children with a gender dysphoria diagnosis in England has risen fiftyfold over the last decade, although numbers remain low, research has found.

The study, which appeared in the journal Archives of Disease in Childhood, showed the prevalence of gender dysphoria increased from about one in 60,000 in 2010, equating to 192 children and young people nationally, to about one in 1,200 in 2021 - or 10,291 nationally.

From 2015, there was a quick rise in prevalence among children recorded as female on their health records, which ended up about twice as high as for those recorded male by 2021.

This really is so sad and disheartening.

I do pray we can get this craziness out of the schools and actually away from kids. They are just confusing kids.

Yeah, funny how when people have a vocabulary for something, they start to identify it more readily.

I'm sure there is some amount of novelty and social contagion at play, as well as the usual teenage hormone confusion, and that in the coming years, this will settle down somewhat. But to suggest that that's all there is to it strikes me as being willfully blind to the number of kids who persistently didn't fit some traditional mold.

This didn't existed even 40 little years ago, nobody talked about this in my country, nobody did occurred to them this stuff, transvestites were a thing some adults were doing, as a kid and teen this didn't existed in society, they should stop lying, i lived through all that.

This is just erosion of christian/moral/traditional family values, and bad ideologies and trends creeping in.

Just because you were ignorant of it didn't mean that it didn't exist.

Various forms of "gender-bending" have existed in many cultures for millennia. The term "transsexual" (or rather, its original german form) was coined in the 1920's (I became aware of it in the early 90's), along with the first gender reassignment surgery. The term "transgender" was coined in the 1960's. Yes, it's grown rather more common in recent years, but it's not new.

This one is a Christian interest capaign group on the subject.

I would prefer all people who do have a responsibilty to our children's health to first do no harm, but I am clueless how to try to make it happen.

I think this is generally a modern problem of body dysmorphia. We had the spates of young girls with dieting issues like bulimia and anorexia and self cutting. This aligns with an sharp increase in females suffering anxiety disorders.

Its easy to see when young people who are already naturally confused going through puberty but with additional psychological issues about their bodies could feel that being trans may give them an identity they can change their body or relate to an identity that may make them feel more comfortable.

But its the discomfort that needs to be addressed first. Many of these young people grow out of the dysmorphia after puberty or with therapy. Many actually turn out gay or lesbian and were misdiagnosed.

But more generally I think its a modern body problem. Maybe the unreal expectations from social media, celebs and all that has rubbed off and now young people measure themselves on what status they have. Also the access to porn more readily creates unreal body images and expectations.

Afterall young people are whatever environment we create or allow usally around a generation or two before things change. Certainly theres a lot of pressure and breakdown happening everywhere. Young people seem to cop it a lot.

They tell kids they can be the opposite sex so a boy says he wants to be a girl. Tomorrow he wants to be a fire truck

I was playing doctor with the little girl nextdoor when I was five. My first crush and kiss was when I was six. I've seen kids pretending sex with Barbie dolls at the same age.

Kids start doing things at different ages.

Are you an adult? Of course you shouldn't think of it unless you have children or grandkids. Then, you get down on the floor and play with them, just not in a sexual manner.

If you are observant, you will notice things when around children that may surprise you.

I am an adult, I do not have children, and I do not mean to accuse anyone of doing wrong by rolling about on the floor with the little people in harmless play. Nor am I concerned about toys or children playing with other children. As long as it is only healthy play you are talking about, everybody carry on.

You used the phrase "girls that experiment with homosexual sex" and I obviously missed something about what you meant.

It is some psychologists in my country, and the influence of the internet on children, creating this big "trans-children" myth and causing harm I am worried about. My only point is I think they should leave the children alone, and not interfere. The children's body's should not be permanently altered, not based on some theory that their gender is wrong, it is all risking harm without acheiving any demonstrable good.
