  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., fired off a 33-page letter earlier this week to Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth, citing his Christian tattoo, among other issues, to suggest the U.S. Army veteran is unfit for office and could pose an "insider threat."

"I am deeply concerned by the many ways in which your behavior and rhetoric indicates that you are unfit to lead the Department of Defense," Warren wrote in the letter to Hegseth on Monday.

"Your confirmation as Secretary of Defense would be detrimental to our national security and disrespect a diverse array of servicemembers who are willing to sacrifice for our country."

The tattoo, itself, means little without observing his actions. Does he follow Jesus Christ?

It’s my understanding he does. I think the majority of his tattoos are all Christian themes or references.

Again, the tattoos mean little. There are thousands of convicts in prison with the Cross tattoos.

He is a professed Christian. If you are looking to examine his fruit… you’ll just have to wait. It not my job to judge his faith.

Professed Christians have been guilty of horrible crimes. I don't know much about him but his tattoos mean nothing to me.

I'm sure that he has done good things and bad things, just as I have done

Same holds true for everybody. How many of us are the same person we were years ago? How many have messed up? Many turn to the Lord in these situations? Life is a journey. Christianity makes it possible that we can move on and do better.

I agree the tattoos mean nothing without his actions to show if he is a follower of Jesus Christ. I want to hear and see how he handles himself during the hearings.

Now you are talking politics. Whether one agrees or disagrees, you cannot judge another’s faith based on that. Does not matter what party they are in or if they are your cup of tea as a person or not. We all work from different stages and situations. God loves us all and He is the potter with each piece of clay He has to work with.

I admit I haven't read this article so I don't know how the tattoo is referenced.

But is Sen. Warren aware of every tattoo that every government official of any standing might have? I'm sure there are members of the Senate and House who have tattoos that are not visible to her. John Fetterman has visible tattoos. I've no idea what they mean and I don't care, but is Sen. Warren concerned that he can't do his job because he has tattoos? There are MANY, MANY members of the armed forces who have tattoos. Is Sen. Warren aware of this?:rolleyes: I've seen many of them first-hand. Maybe Sen. Warren would consider that some of those tattoos would keep them from doing their jobs if she got a look at them. Hmm.

That's not the issue. Warren's complaint is that particular tattoo is supposedly associated with right-wing extremism.

"You were also removed from President Biden’s inauguration because of concerns that you were an insider threat after reports that your “Deus Vult” tattoo “was a Christian expression associated with right-wing extremism.”174 We cannot have a Defense Secretary whose fellow servicemembers feel concerned enough about to report as a potential insider threat."

Your thread is about politics. Warren made her statements in a letter to let him know what she is going to be asking in the hearings regarding his appointment to head the Defense Department.

Again, I agree. The tattoos mean little without his actions.

The tattoo is worn by many right wing extremists but that doesn't mean that anyone wearing that tattoo is an extremist. Ergo, that is why it is important to find out his motivation for wearing.

There is no such thing as a Christian tattoo.

Are we Levites?

Based on your reasoning, I do not identify as a Levite, Jew, Greek, Ephesian, or Galatian, that mean nothing in the Bible is applicable to me.

If we don’t use Bible, then what is the point of being Christian.

I am referring to the quotation you are using is from Levticus which is for the priesthood and is part of the law regulating that tribe. Do you also not wear garments of mixed fabrics and not eat swine?

Oh yes there is. Early Christians marked themselves. We’ve been through this. You still live under Mosaic law? Let it go.
