  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So picture this. I was born and raised of entirely Jewish family and ancestry, so far as is known; but through untellable myriads of violations of my free will, the Father cut me out of that flock, and brought me to Christ the Lord. He married me to my sweet Lori in '96, who has no such origin, who had a more or less traditional USAmerican upbringing. As a result, although I have nothing to do with trees this time of year, relatives and friends do, and I go along for the ride. Sometimes it's "smile and wave boys", sometimes a little better, when I can play (piano and keys) in some holy context.

So sweet Lori and I are with her sister, on vacation one year, and she takes us to a huge "Christmas Store" open probably three months out of the year. I'd never seen anything like it, and I thought I'd go for the anthropological entertainment :) And so this ex-Jew-boy found himself wandering around the rooms, looking at this and that, wondering what to think next. I had walked in and around a certain open doorway at least five times, when it hit me. Over and over again I had been walking by a string of gigantic brass-colored balls, all of which had price tags. Whence came an idea.

Since then, every year, I have found someone to give a framed and signed award, with nice graphics, called the "Brass-Colored Ball-Shaped Christmas Ornament Award", awarded for (wording varies) extraordinary perspicacity, audacity, and just plain nerve :)
