• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Look I'm sympathetic here but if you show up on a message board with an argumentative posture, people will come back with their defenses raised. Just slow your roll like 25 percent and you'll be fine.
you show up on a message board with an argumentative posture
Please provide an example of such in an OP I made. People love to make groundless accusations here. If you are sympathetic, then help me out and show me explicitly how I was argumentative in my OP.

Do you see what you just did there? I'm 99% sure that no one here loves to make groundless accusations. Could an accusation accidentally be made which later turns out to be groundless? Sure, but no one here "loves to make groundless accusations".

I absolutely did not slight nutroll. He absolutely / definitely slighted me. As did several others. They saw "EP" and vent ballistic. I have zero confidence that they read what I wrote. They definitely did not read my replies to their assertions, and not one has responded with quotes from me that supports their accusations. Very much not fellowship worthy.
you absolutely were snarky with him. you do share some of the blame in the miscommunication. as everyone does when this happens, especially online.
"you reach out even if they didn’t." I've been thoroughly lectured how out of line I am, and how it used to be here. Well I conclude that it used to be that certain ones here have free rein to make groundless accusations against other posters and are offended when someone challenges them to support those assertions.
That is a poor legacy to tout.
no one is touting that as a legacy. and either way, you still reach out.

As a result of my OP, the Ethnic one, I have been peppered with groundless accusations. They are so wild, that it is clear to me that they didn't bother to read the OP much less my comments challenging those accusations. To date, I have zero responses with any quote of mine supporting those groundless accusations.
Common sense tells me that no, it is certainly not 99% of people here do not love to make groundless accusations. So, yes, "people here" [ there ARE people here] that love to make groundless accusations, indeed.

What I suggest, if I may be so bold, is that some effort by those commenting here be expended on asking my accusers to support their accusations with quotes of mine. THAT would be in the true spirit of fellowship. That would be in the furtherance of engagement, which I think, is the first step to fellowship, per my understanding.

Most of us are reasonable, though some certainly ramble about what they imagine must be wrong with the people they are opposed to, perhaps peppered with quotes from irrelevant authors, but they can safely be ignored. I think your best route forward is to just drop the issue and move forward.

You certainly came with a lot of "I".

You could always consider leaving that at home and coming back.

Does "We" mean "this is what the Church teaches" essentially? Or am I missing something?

The TAW sub forum is not a clique or anything. It used to be more active, although it is still alive. Many people have moved on or are here less. Those of us who have remained are just familiar to each other. Some inquirers frequent for a while (some become Orthodox) and move on ( which is fine). Anyone is welcome to stay on and participate of course.

I think the complaint was that it was being used rather more expansively than that, encompassing things far beyond what the Church actually teaches.

As far as what I said, I mean the consensus of what nearly all of us agree on.

About the "we" thing. It's simple. Suppose this is a cooking forum. Some people soak pinto beans before cooking them, and some people don't. So you'd have a forum with soakers and non-soakers talking. The people that have been around for years have heard everyone else's reasons and arguments for soaking, and can say "we soakers believe..." because he generally knows their position and why they hold it. And non-soakers can say the same about their fellows. There's nothing grandiose about it, and it's not one-sided.

Non-soakers are clearly heretics.
