The LORD spoke to Abraham in Genesis 18:
Right, this was an act of anthropomorphism. God acted like a man to interact with men tangibly, moment by moment, in real-time.
Under this framework, we found that Abraham interceded for the inhabitants:
Under this framework, we found out what kind of men lived in Sodom:
He sent angels manifested as men in order to interact with men. This anthropomorphic device is not for God to gain knowledge about men but for God to interact with men physically and for men to show who they really are during the interaction. God desires to have a real-time dynamic relationship with people. In this episode, we learn that Abraham had a heart to intercede for the Sodomites.
An application of this is found in the NT in Hebrews 13:
Didn't God know already?20b “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, 21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know.”
Right, this was an act of anthropomorphism. God acted like a man to interact with men tangibly, moment by moment, in real-time.
Under this framework, we found that Abraham interceded for the inhabitants:
Under this framework, we found that Lot was different from the local inhabitants. Genesis 1923 Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?"
Under this framework, the angels spared Lot's family from destruction.1 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth.
Under this framework, we found out what kind of men lived in Sodom:
Why did God send angels to Sodom to investigate if God knows everything?4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”
2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
