  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A Christian counselor is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to block enforcement of a Colorado law that regulates what licensed professionals can say while discussing unwanted same-sex attractions with clients, arguing that the state government censors speech it disfavors.

The Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal group, filed a petition for a writ of certiorari last Friday to the Supreme Court on behalf of Kaley Chiles in the hopes of overturning a circuit court decision against her.

"Chiles believes that people flourish when they live consistently with God's design, including their biological sex," reads the petition.

hmm...although I do believe those with unwanted same-sex attraction can benefit from therapy, I am very much opposed to conversion therapy. It has shown to be harmful and ineffective.

Those that desire therapy should be able to give it a try. This is not the 50/60’s anymore.

The bigger problem is minors sent to conversion therapy under duress by disapproving parents to chase the gay away. Adults have more choice to spend their money on something that won't work if they want to.

I think it’s something that should be consented to like at eighteen if it something they want to do. It should be available to those that desire it. Parents send their kids to therapy all the time but maybe in cases like these it should be through a doctor’s referral.

This is a tricky issue in a legal sense, because the questions becomes:

Can state authorities or courts determine which treatment options, within the realm of mental health, are permissible?

Instinctively, I would say "no", but there are therapists out there who are also convincing kids that they are the opposite sex, and encouraging life-altering treatments and surgeries for these kids

This may be an issue for accreditation and licensing. But the idea that we can prevent Christian counselors from operating, even if those who go to these counselors are looking for "conversion therapy" is against the First and 14th Amendments. If licensing boards, authorities, and courts, start picking and choosing what expression is permissible within the context of counseling, we will have a big problem

Those are my thoughts exactly.
