  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Former My Faith Votes CEO Jason C. Yates, whose organization is known for getting conservative Christians involved in politics, has been charged with possessing child pornography.

Yates was charged last month in district court in McLeod County, Minnesota, with eight felony counts of possession of child pornography. Each charge carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

According to court records, a witness told authorities in July that a family member of Yates “accidentally discovered” a hard drive that contained child sexual abuse material “in the office of Jason Yates.”

It appears this man had a 'secret sin'.
That doesn't change the known effectiveness of the organization ...
nor does it condemn the innocent others who were involved in promoting the goals of the organization.

Being "on the hard drive" doesn't even mean that he put it there himself. When people are online, there are many different files that accompany the webpage and contents you see on the screen, including advertisements, that end up within the files known as "cookies" that accompany webpages. Technically, it can be said that these were "on" his hard drive, but doesn't mean it was something he consciously downloaded and viewed himself.
If someone wants to investigate an individual, one of the easiest ways to get someone is to seize their computer and do a scan of their hard drive, including all residual files from the web browser. Webpage cookies and ads are a treasure trove of things that can be used against someone through the MSM if the report only states that such and such images were found "on the hard drive".

It sounded to me like a family member found an external hard drive.

For those who might not know, an external hard drive can be used to browse the internet and store files separately from the hard drive built into a computer.

Yeah, it can also be used to play computer games that aren't put into the actual hard drive etc

There is only so much space available on computers.

According to the following article:

Yates has a prior conviction and is a registered predatory offender.

And that basically the witness plugged the hard drive into their computer and CP popped up. So it sounds to me like that's what it was being used for, to store those images.
